this thread was basically what every turbo guy here went through.
kept finding the limiting factor and just keep upgrading.
i even went hx40 to s366sxe like you so i know that feeling.
super interested in how much more power an m5x can make per psi on teh same turbo
vs my tractor plow motor m30.
AND ZF number 4 is in the bag.....
Tired of blowing these POS transmissions up. I change my transmissions more frequently than my oil.....
TIME FOR ANOTHERRRRRRR ONE

We could have told you that would happen. GS6-53, 420G, T56 Magnum, or built 3 speed Ford or GM auto. 420G is cheapest option but rated for the least torque.
Yeah, I knew this would happen. My issue is justifying a $4k transmission set up.
I can throw stocker ZFs in for $300. But I am getting tired of knowing any pull could be its last...
Im torn....
I will not go auto, so that's off the table.
T56 magnum is more expensive and I don't think it is any more durable than the GS6-53.
420g is not happening. Too expensive and I will grenade those as well.
So it is either toss in another stock ZF for $300 or bite the bullet and go GS6-53. But again, $4k is a tough pill for me to swallow.
what breaks on those m50 trannys exactly? can they be beefed up somehow?
People have rebuilt them and Cyro treated the internals and still broke them. Samsonas makes internals that won’t break and even a 6 speed conversion but it will cost as much or more than the other options. I was on my 3rd ZF320 and worried about breaking and bought a 420G but decided against it and then waivered between the GS6-53 and T56 Magnum. I think the Magnum is better but also more expensive. I chose the GS6-53 with the 22RPD kit. I like it.
Dct swap it

Kinda a stupid question but do you ever lower the boost for some pulls? It's winter and 20 degrees out so I never run more than 18psi this time of year. In the Summer I'll turn it up, but I do run a T56 not a ZF. I don't worry though unless I boost over 800whp on E85. The trans feels strong and reliable albeit clunky and loud with a triple disc :/
Regular T56?
Raj stop breaking these transmissions. Pretty soon there won't be enough left for us normies.
I have the ZF rebuild manual and I looked into rebuilding these trannies... but the manual is seriously about 100 pages long and requires over 16 special tools that are NLA unless you contact ZF directly. And they wont deal with the public, only businesses.

I have a stock ZF 5spd locally thats mine if I want it. But I am so tired of destroying these transmissions.
Ive also got a GS6-53 locally thats mine... But $4k transmission set up is a really hard pill for me to swallow. If it was $2-3k id have done it yesterday....
I am still weighing my options...
Maybe you should go back to CA, and make it great again?

Not sure why you make reference to Albanians, but in person I’m sure you wouldn’t have the guts to do so.
OP sorry for the off topic.

Well I did another thing
Bought a GS6-53 transmission. I still havent committed to doing the swap right now... Really having a hard time coughing up $3500 more to get this transmission in right now. I want to, but its a tough pill for me to swallow.
We'll see.....

There has been some talk on Facebook of swapping the GS6 without an adapter. I believe PMC adapters is making a flywheel that lets you bolt the trans up with no adapter.
Yup, SG, I will be buying said adaptor and trying it. Working on building engine then will be applying the components to the drivetrain afterword. I've got a HUGE cluster of photos and probably a whole day worth of typing to update my little build thread. Said conversion will be attempted / included.
