Phil, you can put a "floorplate" style 2-post lift in a 9'3" ceiling space (that's all I had in Ohio); the same lift down here in a 10'4" height (attached garage):

You pretty much have to have >12' (this is 12'4" in the detached shop) to use an overhead 2-post lift. However, I have seen some creative use of placing the columns between the trusses, and passing the cables/hose overhead through the attic space, so you don't have to rule that out entirely! I personally have no use for a 4-post lift, but recognize that it suits others strictly for parking and less invasive overhauls than what I do day to day.

Good luck with the build, and I'm going to want to see pictures__including the more boring stuff, like the house part, lol!
Haha I'll be sure to show you our choice in cabinets and countertops

The sheetrock wasn’t up yet but I measured the ceiling height at 9’4” (prob 3” after sheetrock) I’m looking into the MaxJax or the floorplate 2-post lift you mentioned. (leaning towards the floorplate style lift). The foundation has tension rods running through the concrete so I need to contact the builder to find where exactly they are located…wouldn’t want to drill into the concrete and hit a tension rod.

When you had the lift in OH, did you work underneath the car using a stool?...how was the experience overall? I’m not tall (5’10) so I think the lift not going up so high could work for me.

Well it's not much, compared to the professional grade garages shown in this thread with lifts and tool racks and like five feet of space around the cars... But I went to great effort to clear out my little 1921 2-car garage enough to put my Z3 away in it while still keeping two motorcycles and 4 bicycles.

No more getting rained on overnight or hit by flying branches in high winds for my roadster!

I have a 4 post lift at home, they are great for storage and most basic maintenance. If you plan on using it to work on your car (i.e. Suspension, brakes, clutch, etc) you want a 2 post or a frame rail lift. 95% of the time I use jack stand and a jack, it's just much easier and quicker.

Now if you option in hydraulic jacks that span the rails on a 4 post lift, that's a killer setup.

Thanks, I have limited width and the two posts are about 2' wider. The four post lift will fit better in my garage. I like the idea of the frame span rail jacks.

We had the same issue when looking for a 4 post, 3 car garage converted into a 2 car with 2 doors, not the usual large single door. I wish the app would let me upload pics, we have an 82 Corolla tercel on the bottom and a 79 Mercury cougar on the top. The cougar is massive!!

If I recall correctly, we looking into the frame rail hydraulic jacks and it pretty much doubled the price of the lift. I've seen them used at shops, and they work amazing. It's just hard to justify the cost.

I wish someone would put together another south Florida markham park coupe meet. I went to the last one some years back but didn't have a coupe.

I tend to drive the Mclaren a bit more, though I love them both equally (in several ways I prefer the M Coupe).

Yep, that photo is from a couple years ago. We've had 9 show up 3-4 times, but haven't made it to double digits yet. I like that photo because the two roadsters in the foreground look like they could be coupes too.

We're still two or three months from being ready to move in, but this will be the new digs. Two car attached garage, two car carport, and a 30x25 two story barn. All currently full of Model A, Model T, and parts. Eventually it will be full of Z3 roadster, Z3 coupe, and parts.

Just moved to a new apartment and finished setting up my half of the new garage. Had room for the bikes, the homebrew lagering fridge, and an oriental carpet I found in the alley in someone's trash

I'd love if you wrote up a Coupe Comparison article for M Coupe Buyers Guide. You're the 3rd person I've seen that owns that combo.
