As a counterpoint to the Tajma-garages, here's my Coupe parked in my carport. It's got mud on the fenders, and dust on the back end, both from the road to my ranch. Oh well, I drive it every day and enjoy the hell out of it.
Marty
I did a remake on the garage a few years back. I'll be moving next year, so I'll have to do it all over again. At least I can make improvements based on what I learned.

Hey, just remember, you can always live in your car but you can't race your house...One day, just for kicks, I want to pull my Healey into our living room__it'll fit through the double doors__
Photbucket looking to make extra money......
Now that you mention it, my RV does have a 454. I've actually done donuts with it. Yeah baby.

I am coming up on 2 years in the new home and still the garage is far from where I want it to be.
Mid-engine RWD, rear engine RWD and front engine RWD!
Apologies for crappy photo quality.

A Cayman R, Z3 Coupe and a Corvair? Interesting garage, very cool!
Thanks, lightweight and RWD are two traits I value. The M Roadster is the big heavy of the bunch, pretty cool when you can say that a 2 seat roadster is your heaviest car!
What I'm doing with the Elise is having fun! At the time I took the photo, you can see the rear clam is up. I was working on transaxle and clutch upgrades. It's first duty is simply to be driven--any chance I get for warm dry weather I have to try and get it out there. A close second is autocross service. Got my first event in last weekend with the new gearing, LSD, clutch, and race tires. The car performed fine, then as I'm turning in to my neighborhood--speedo and tach went out! British cars and their wiring woes. Luckily it worked fine again after a CTRL-ALT-DEL. :P
Awesome, you are living right my friend!

At least with all the salt in the air, I wash it constantly
Woo Hoo! Exciting times
Phil, you can put a "floorplate" style 2-post lift in a 9'3" ceiling space (that's all I had in Ohio); the same lift down here in a 10'4" height (attached garage):
You pretty much have to have >12' (this is 12'4" in the detached shop) to use an overhead 2-post lift. However, I have seen some creative use of placing the columns between the trusses, and passing the cables/hose overhead through the attic space, so you don't have to rule that out entirely! I personally have no use for a 4-post lift, but recognize that it suits others strictly for parking and less invasive overhauls than what I do day to day.
Good luck with the build, and I'm going to want to see pictures__including the more boring stuff, like the house part, lol!
Last summer we bought a garage that came with a house and almost 14 acres of land. The garage is still being setup as we want to rip out the old cabinets in the back, but it still gives us plenty of room for our cars and the Lemons race cars, plus it has a proper pit.

Once we complete some other projects, we will then be converting this barn that is on the land into something more suitable to house cars:
