Waking up old thread.
I have my 03 X5 4.6is for sale right now but reading this thread makes me thinking.
I really don't have to sell it but then I have some other projects in my mind.
My missus just might make garage my new bedroom if I buy fifth car.

Shoot, I've had this thing for about 2 years now. Guides just went so I'm gonna fix them and ride it out while I build the b46, source a 6 speed etc.
Royal on black, mk4, m sills and bumpers, plopped in some e38 sport seats, factory technical graphite trim, someone installed the folding mirrors before I got it. Came with the e39 mpars too.

Do yourself a favor, do all the stuff Alpina did to the 4.4
Balance everything, valve job, porting the heads after having them machined. Opt for the alloy pistons and weigh and balance everything.
Even if you don't do any of that, it'll make you smile.
Ask M5Jed for a set of headers and bang gears!
I saw your header vids. I'm not sure I want to get mine that "loud" as I truly don't want the wagon to pull much attention. In all fairness, I don't even want dual muffler banks out the rear. lol. Well noted on getting everything balanced, and changing the pistons. Did you ever get to properly dyno your final setup? Around where did you end up on the rwhp number? Thanks again for the great read and inspiration.

I never have gotten to my final numbers. The divorce and work have slowed me to beyond a crawl. Once there's a settlement, I'm back in it.
The headers aren't the loud part really, not having cats or mufflers does the loud part mostly (in my opinion)
There are some mahle alloy pistons for about $700 but they're lighter and better balanced so, worth it?
I'm excited about this!
