There are some meyle alloy pistons for about $700 but they're lighter and better balanced so, worth it?

    I'm excited about this!
$700? Worth it for damned sure at that price. Lmao. Sorry to hear about the divorce, hope it settles soon and in your greatest favour.

I'll see if I can find the link to the pistons again. It was the one thing I didn't want to compromise on but definitely did.

Thanks. Things are going as fast as C-19 is allowing (divorce) next!

I just wanted everyone to know that this car has been a daily since the swap.
She's not done, not close but she's run great until I drove to AZ from my home in Washington. Crossing the high desert @ 85mph while the air is 4°F was probably not smart. The next day, I had a rough running car.

I'm out in Payson, AZ where they've never heard of bmw's (kidding but seriously sparce for parts)
I'm pulling injectors, plugs and will test fuel pressure and possibly replace the fuel pump.

See, she's just like any other bmw, trying to steal all my money but making me smile every day.

In less than a year, my aging folks decided to move, again. I was here in March for exactly this (rental car that time)
Just helping them move and I'll be in my way home*
Assuming I can quickly fix the wagon in time to beat snowy passes (bought new snow tires just for the trip but no need to get sideways this far from home)

If only I drove a sand rail or quad... Beautiful area for sure but it's 60 miles to the nearest place to get the right parts without waiting a week.

Being honest, I was thinking fuel pump but with a misfire... Plugs, coils or injectors? I'm waiting till shops open up tomorrow to go get a professional opinion/diagnosis. Then I might be able to narrow down the damage.

I'd start with trying to see which cylinder is misfiring and then move the coil from that cylinder to another and see if the error follows...

I can honestly (& humbly grateful) say that while I wouldn't ask that of you, I'm made more confident with yours, purplecty and wagonsHo's help. Thank you.

    I'm laying out tools now... : )

I have plugs and a coil coming Wednesday so I'll drop them in and see how they do. I'm feeling OK and eager to hear my baby bark to life again.

My folks closing is tomorrow so I'll help move them down the road (literally, 10 miles away) and then I'll be on my way (fingers crossed)
I'd like to beat Winter if I can, heading North again.

I love her at any angle.
OK; If you're ever near Phoenix AZ and in a bmw-bind, OnsitebmwserviceLLC@gmail.com is outstanding. Give Ryan a call
    (480) 493-7669
Price was beyond fair and he was very thorough and speedy. His employee has a history with bimmer from '77 up. Ryan has had his business for about 4 years now and should be in a shop but with his big parts/tools truck he does just fine.
8 new plugs because plugs and 2,yup, 2 coil packs.
She's going to be fun going home.

Turns out, I need a new automatic shifter. She doesn't read my downshift in the steptronic. I know, 6 spd swap... (sigh) fine, as soon as the divorce is final.

Thanks for pointing me in the right directions guys. This far from home and city lights, I freaked myself out a bit.

I love learning about great area providers. I hope Ryan's business continues to flourish. Sad to see her on a tow truck, but I'm sure you got it covered.

Good to hear it’s alive again. Nice pics.
The salt flats are on my bucket list, hope to make it there with a friend this next year.
One of the guys in our local hotrod car club holds a record at the flats for his class.
I was actually thinking about running my 540 on the salt until I read the rule book, no LSD allowed.
I gave my pegleg diff to GG when we moved.

    No LSD, why not???

Lee, glad you got it figured out. Nothing worse than being far from home when crap happens.
Dude, you need one of your spoilers on that wagon!!!

No limited slip in the salt because salt is slippery.
Break traction with 2 wheels and go sideways at speed, and you will roll.

Exactly. I could get a junkyard diff but then I’d never get the 33 hotrod finished.

I was a bit nervous, not knowing what was going on under the hood but yes, SO happy the parts were available (Worldpac) Phoenix AZ.

Spoiler-- when I get to the last one, I can afford one so I'm waiting. Sent one to the UK last week, they're out there (as you know my friend) Someday... Gotta get that final dyno/tune finished 1st too. Then do a comparison between Jed's heads and stock pulls on the dyno so people know that even a 4.4/4.6 can benefit from his Unicorns, beyond the notes of luv from the back end.

So, living in a snowy area, should I put mine in? I was under the impression that my LSD would help in the slippery stuff..?
