Idk but this is an interesting subject. Subscribed...
There have been some threads on this subject, maybe in this or the M3 or the FI subforums. I think you need a different clutch, different linkage, different mount and different driveshaft.
Yeah thats what im trying to figure out i have the transmission and i have the clutch disk with the proper splines, the e90 flywheel bolt pattern at flywheel is different, so i could use a e36 325i dualmass flywheel for clutch and i noticed that the e90 flywheel has a larger ring gear for starter, was looking for more info, wanting to swap this into my e36 m3, i may pull the tranny from my s52 e30 as i already have a e36 325i clutch flywheel installed on it and see how it mounts up and check starter engagement

Subscribed .. If the tranny can be put on a m5... That means the engine can to a e36.. And that puts a 3.0 n5 engine a newest cheap engine swap. (Given ecu hacks. )
Nobody would recertify these machines after somebody screwed with them without any visibility into what they did.
HONK! HONK! Clown car coming through!
