    840ci with 6-speed manual

    840.JPGDSC02551.JPG
Time has come to sell my 1994 840ci with 6-sp manual. I believe this is one of 3 or so in the US with a 6-sp. The 6-sp is very enjoyable to drive. For the conversion (completed in Aug 2012), I ordered all stock parts from dealer (including the very last manual e31 driveshaft, and some parts came from Germany). A shop called Bimmerwerks in Harrahan, LA did the work. The team at Bimmerwerks pulled the conversion off flawlessly. They are amazing mechanics. The conversion makes this e31 same as a stock e-31 manual you can find in Europe. The trans, pedal assemby, and clutch came from a wrecked 94 or 95 540i, with about 70k miles (at least that's what I was told). There are no issues with the transmission. Since 2013, the car has been in Memphis, TN. I bought the car originally in 2011 with about 70k miles, and it came from a dealer in Arizona... but prior to that was in El Paso. I am the second owner according to the carfax

    The car also features:
    - Turner motorsport performance chip
    - Eibach lowering springs with bilsteins (installed by Bimmerwerks)
    - flawless OEM 18" bmw m-parallels and Bridgestone Potenza 285/35/18 rear and 245/40/18 front
    - 105k miles
    - headlight and highbeam upgrade
    - needs headliner replacement and new rear speakers

I'm not sure how to value this car with the upgrades. I am selling because of a new baby. Make an offer! PM me if you have any questions. I can send more pictures if requested. Thanks!

I think per forum rules you have to post a price. I'd love to see more photos. Thanks

Wait wait. If you "converted your auto to a 6 speed, then its not "one of 3 in the US". A conversion is not factory, no matter what you do. Put a old 8 track in, then you could say 1 of 1. Nice car, but don't mislead. GLWS.

He means one of three in the US that have been converted. Everyone knows it's not factory. It removes the most unreliable part of the drivetrain of this vehicle, so I'd say its a plus. The parts used are likely similar to the OEM components used in the international 840ci 6spd.

How do you know it's "one of three converted" in the US? For all you know, I might have one in my garage. And it could very well been converted with all the right parts, but it's not " one of three".

That's neither here nor there, he said he *believes* one of three. He could be wrong. All I know is he has a valued conversion that many of us M60 owners have thought about doing. Don't dog the guy, there is no impropriety here.

I agree. It looks like a nice car I would love to have. But I'm too old to want a stick.

Is the car still in Memphis? Might want to check this out over the holiday. Maybe it needs to come back to it's original home (elpaso)

The bidding started at $7,000 with a buy-in-now at $9,000. I personally can't believe that none of the people bidding on it realized that $9,000 was a really good price regardless of the flaws it might have had. The conversion alone is a $4 to $6000 endeavour. Someone finally wised up and clicked the Buy-It-Now button half way through the auction. If it was black I would have clicked the BIN on day one of the auction...

Not a very convincing eBay description. Maybe Max is getting fed up with problematic bidders? I say screw eBay for a car like this anyways. If you must auction it (I'd stick to the forums myself as there's known interest as well as people here who appreciate the work done), I'd take it over to BaT and have a proper description made by the BaT writers. Highlight things like "the last drive shaft out of Europe", make a case for it being a better 6 speed E31 than the V12/M70 version, etc. Fix the headliner, put headlights and license plate lights back to stock, and place a $15k reserve on the car.

I would be careful with that... per eBay:

"Shill bidding happens when anyone—including family, friends, roommates, employees, or online connections—bids on an item with the intent to artificially increase its price or desirability. In addition, members cannot bid on or buy items in order to artificially increase a seller's Feedback or to improve the item's search standing.
Make sure you follow these guidelines. If you don't, you may be subject to a range of actions, including limits of your buying and selling privileges and suspension of your account. Shill bidding is also illegal in many places and can carry severe penalties."

Hey 8-ers. I am still in the process of selling this car. Before I was wishy washy about the sale. This is my dream car ever since I was a little kid. Now it must go. Baby, child care payments, student loans...plus I bought a $1200 fixer x5 on Craigslist that is now my DD. The $9k BIN was pretty dumb, I admit. The 840 has some flaws that you can't really see in the pics. There are some minor door dings, paint chips on nose, some faded paint on the bumpers. Other than that, I think it looks great. The rest of the paint is glossy. The headliner needs replacement (unless you like my home installed black headliner). The front air collectors are out of the car, because I couldn't figure out how to re-install them on my own. On the first BIN on Ebay, the guy never put down a deposit. After a month or two with no deposit, I said no way so I put it back on eBay without a BIN. I was surprised to see it go to nearly 11k. The winner came to check out the car and backed out. He could not live with the wear and tear on the car. The buyer agreed it drove fantastic and was mechanically sound. He was looking for a show car...one with a perfect body. It has been driven not garaged, so there are some door dings, also survived an attack in New Orleans when the wheels were stolen. The car still turns heads, and with a little TLC could be real nice. I have one potential buyer coming in about a week. He seems serious. If anyone else has interest, please let me know. asking $10,800, but willing to negotiate. Thanks
