    M6 vs. 850csi

I turned 18 and graduated high school on technical route now making about $20,000 I got a small house that I got in trust that I can sell for about $80,000 so I will have $80k to spend on my dream of getting a nice BMW which I wanted for years. I live with my parents still and I do not need a car. Since I work in construction theres no need to waste Should I buy new?
There is a M6 from 2013 with 37,200 miles going for $65k and a 1995 BMW 850csi with 36,300 going for $65,000. I know the BMW 850csi is old but it has antique value to it and it will stand out no one else in town has it and even though 6-series is common M6 is a bit less common.
Which car would be better to do audio upgrades on? I need some advice on car selection. For the last 2 years I drove a boring 2006 Honda. Are there any other BMWs that I should consider? I looked at some Alpina B7s but they are out of my budget.

$65k for an 850 is insane. I don't care what shape it's in. Don't buy either car. Save your money or invest it. No one in their right mind would sell a house to buy a car. You're doing it backwards. You sound like me 20 years ago. Get yourself a nice used BMW for less than $20k and use your money wisely.

But if it were my money I'd get the M6 and a nice warranty to go along with it.

Agreed...keep the house, or sell it and keep the money...you have plenty of time to get the car of your dreams later

+1. In 10 years the car will have depreciated (a lot). Probably not so much for the house.

You're 18. You have all kinds of time. If you sell the car to buy the house you'll look back in 20 years and likely regret it.

Sell the house. Buy something fun. Like me, I've always loved E38 7-SERIES and I am converting one to a manual. I could afford better, but why bother. The days of dumping cash aimlessly is over. Its time to think value, bang for the buck and growing. I study economics and have my own business, and my advice for you is buy something you'll enjoy for under 10k cash or build something for under 10k cash. I'd invest like 5k in gold bullion since gold is only poised to grow. Its a secure savings account with much higher interest but safe from bank runs and worthless cash.

Next, the rest of that money should go into savings with a interest rate or something. You're 18, so eventually you'll settle down. Use that money for buying a house you and your wife will live in. These aren't times to throw money away. Cars devalue. A 2017 7-SERIES will depreciate over $40,000 in 36-months. Your telling me that you have no other use for the depreciated value of a new M6? Forget it. Even wealthy people are starting to limit themselves and not splurge randomly. Smart money vs stupid money.

    On the hunt.
Don't spend all your $ at your age. Get a non csi 8 series for a fraction of the price and mod it over time. At your age, investing that money will offer you much greater reward than a depreciating vehicle. The csi will hold value if not driven so what's the point of buying it? It's a collector car which now sadly can't be driven if you want to preserve its value. A 8 series won't deprecate any further. In fact it's one of the few bargains left in the car collecting world. I had one and it's a great car. A bit slow but still fun. I'm sure there are decent mods to make it faster and not break the bank. Good luck.

You are a fool to spend that much money on a car at your age.
