E53 LSX Swap Coming Soon!
Nice!
Subscribed to this one! You planning on an M3 rear swap to gain an LSD? I may try something like this in a couple years (well, more a bargain NA build but still...)
I ran one in an E36. The trans pan is a little too wide to fit between the frame rails. I had to space the front subframe down to maintain a half way reasonable angle on the driveline. I don't know the difference in the width of E46/E36 unibody rails, but that's where you will find most of the issue. The shifter linkage was the next place that caused problems. Keeping the MLPS on the 80e was nearly impossible. I swapped a TH400 shift shaft and eliminated the MLPS. Plenty of floor board massaging was necessary too.
I'm not sure on measurements either I will go in a bit and check that out, I should be test fitting this saturday so I'm guessing I'll get to find out lol wasn't planning on keeping mlps mine didn't come with it anyways plan is to build a bracket to run the e46 cable to shifter
Finally got the motor out , waiting on convertor going to circle d twomorrow and picking it up, worked trans tunnel some
Comparison between the original trans and the 4l80e, original is larger only part that is bigger is the bell housing. Looks like it should fit without any major issues

Stock 4l80 convertor vs High performance circle d stall
Ran fuel feed line and aeromotive fpr
Removed e46 fuel filter, going to run flex fuel sensor for e85 and had a filter from another project I had laying around

nice! this is almost exactly the build I'm planning only planing on going single turbo.
The M3 rear end you have to swap the whole shebang. last time I looked you could find drop out for around $1000-$1500 for everything. but its a direct bolt on
Doesn't appear that the first 3 pictures in your last post are working, stix. Interested to see the progress.
Working now.

Those tiny filters could be very restrictive. At the road course track, NA LS3 E36 had pretty bad fuel pressure/AFR problems with similar filter. Took it out, problem was solved...

It wasn't on my car, it was someone else's dedicated track car. For the remainder of the day he just ran without filter, but then he got something else as a replacement... Not sure on the replacement brand or model.

Actually, I was trying to search through some of my emails from 2 years ago when we discussed his pressure issue and what seems have helped in his situation was getting a filter with element surface area of 60+ Sq inches.
Hope it helps a bit more.

I looked into it alittle bit some people did have the same issues with those summit filters, the elements in them seem to be a problem in the long run having to clean them out often or replace them. The aeromotive fuel filters have a different set up so I might go that route
Test fitted the engine and trans everything fit well. I am using cx racing motor mounts, still have to get a trans crossmember. 4l80 fit without any problems plenty of clearance no need to have done anything to trans tunnel
I think I'm going to cut the ears off the 4l80e to get better clearance for the exhaust

Im curious as to what you do with the rear end as well. I have my 5.3 in the car with a t-56magnum but I'm running the stock 325ci diff for now. I'm only on stock motor so I'm crossing fingers it survives awhile.
What IM going to do is the 8.8 IRS Cobra rear end. then send off my axles to have ford inners put on. then obviously a new drive shaft.
Edit: I just realized you were in Houston! Nioce!

I'm going to see how long the 325 diff lasts for now. Street tires and the auto should hold for alittle bit(crossing my fingers)Going to take it easy till I decide what route I want to take, but I'll probably do the m3 diff. The 8.8 irs seems interesting but how much fab work is involved to the subframe?.... any pics of your build?
You would have to rebuild the entire subframe. But that's not as bad as it sounds if you have the right equipment. I was looking at turner motorsports last night and they have custom diffs that fit inside the stock housing. They're built for racing for the most part. That may be an option too.
And sadly no, I don't really have any pics of the build. I am absolutely terrible at documentation. I just have a couple pics of the motor in the car but nothing that gives detail to anything.
Subscribed, great build.
I'm very surprised the 4L80E cleared without any issues.
May I ask what oil pan you're using with the CX Racing mounts?
I'm considering trying out the the GM muscle car pan. Do you think this pan will clear?

Even if it clears, the bottom of the pan will be hanging too low and be a perfect candidate to be first thing smacked.
