Fixed the dump today, when I made it I forgot to add a turbo oil drain (idiot) and it was all ready to run except for that in the old car so I tried to weld one in under the car and had to use some spicy because I couldn't get the whole way around with the welder. It was dodgy and I hated it. Then I forgot to fix it again when I put the engine in this car... Plus it was also not in a good spot for the current setup so I made a bung thing to weld in and moved the fitting to a better spot (I hope, hard to know 100% with out the block or anything here to check against).

    Came up alright.

Engine machine shop have started on the engine so shouldn't be too long. I decided to get the pistons HPC coated so that might add a few days but will be worth it.

    New lounge room ornament

New wrist pins aren't great. The big ones are my old ones, I'll reuse them

    Old vs new

    Will start assembly tomorrow.

Withe the heavier pins and old pistons the weight is almost the same as the new pistons and the old pins.

I didn't achieve too much yesterday. Well not as much as I would have liked because I had to drive around for 4 hours to get bearings from the only place that had them in stock because the machine shop forgot to order them and being a Friday I couldn't wait until next week to get them posted here. Today I have to enlarge the holes in the head gasket which is a job I've always hated doing. Hopefully the new cometic gasket will be a bit easier because the layers are only held with a couple of rivets, where the old gaskets were very well held together and I was always concerned with Swarf getting between the layers and compromising the gasket.

    Gapping Rings sucks

    As does fitting piston clips

You know what? Should've coloured the pistons differently like rainbow colours. One yellow, one green, one indigo, etc ... Just saying.

Well I opened up the head gasket holes pulled the it apart into layers for deburring. Spent almost the whole day driving around again because the machine shop didn't machine out my dowel holes to suit the bigger studs and dowels which I was very pleased about. Managed to find a 17mm have reamer to do it myself. After hours of driving and $105 later I had a reamer and headed home to assemble the engine. Just the head gasket mods takes hours with a total of 48 holes to debur on both sides. Anyway, the head is on, cams are in and timing chain on. Now I've got to head out to an engagement party and tomorrow I'm dirt bike training for most of the day. Hopefully I'll get a bit done in the arvo though and the rest of the assembly goes more to plan.

Not wrapped to need this after spending a small fortune having the machining done..

The stopper layer that apparently makes all the difference with these mlx gaskets

Forgot to put this thing on. Off it all comes again..

There is a very strict method that may be followed if you want any chance of installing the turbo stuff

Well a lot has happened since the last update. Moving houses, separating from partners, changing jobs etc. The good news is that I still have the car and for the most part it's in one piece.

I did dyno it but had a few transmission issues with the lock up convertor slipping and possibly something in the trans slipping as well. With the boost turned down all the way (8-9psi) it still managed to make it 660rwhp @ 5000rpm. Didn't get to go much higher than that due to the trans issues.

A few days later I managed to destroy the intermediate shaft in the trans doing power skids 😞 since then I've moved the car around a bit (only has gears 1-3) but that's about the extent of the work done on it until recently.

I've bought a cnc machining centre and rented myself a factory and managed to get the bug again to start building stuff for the car. A mate from work does a bit of drifting so I'm thinking I might have a go at that as well. Seeing as the car isn't really fit for purpose on the road I'm seriously considering stripping it out. I've got some seamless rollcage tube already and find a set of coilovers which I installed the other day. Also picked up a tr6060 gearbox, a tilton triple plate clutch and have numerous other parts laying around that will likely find their way into the car.

Will start designing a flywheel and gearbox adaptor soon and machine them up on the machining centre. Also considering machining a billet sump because I'm not happy with the cut and shut job I did on the current one.

What does everybody think about going manual and roll cage?

Every time I think of myself as handy with a wrench I stumble upon a build like yours and feel like a caveman.
Your engine choice is interesting, your skills impressive.
Well done so far, sir. Please, carry on.

Sounds like you aren't breaking enough things with the slushbox.
