Here we go. I am posting my 2003 540 m-sport wagon for sale. First off I would like to say that I do NOT need to sell this car and therefor i will not give it away. This is a rare car for those of you that may not know. Only 31 of these cars were accounted for as of August 1st of this year. That being said, I also understand that this is a 12-year old car and is not perfect.
I am going to try to explain this car to the best of my knowledge.
I purchased this car about 2 years ago and brought the car to Iowa from New Jersey. On my way home with the car it developed a miss on two cylinders. The day after I got home with the car the clutch fan seized shredding the fan. This damaged the hood, coolant hoses, and a few other things. I replaced the entire cooling system including a spal electric fan. At this time I also replaced all eight coil packs and spark plugs. Soon after this both rear air springs were replaced along with brakes on all four corners and front brake lines. The passenger front caliper was then found to be stuck and warped the rotor. The caliper was replaced along with all new front brakes. The front bumper and hood have been repaired (bumper due to hitting some road kill).
To sum things up:
The good:
-new coil packs and plugs
-entire new cooling system
-new brakes
-new front brake lines
-new passenger brake caliper
-new rear air springs
-brand new alternator
-new valve at rear of intake manifold
-rear doors resealed to prevent wet floors
-aux input
-good tires
-clean title
-complete timing kit just installed (~500miles ago)
I also have some new parts that have not been installed:
-everything for a transmission flush
-valve cover seals
-another set of coolant hoses (i was sent to many)
The not so good:
-sunroof does not work
-hood and front bumper have been repaired (bumper has a crack by the tow hook hole)
-front splash guards missing
-slight oil leaks (does not leave spots on the ground)
-tires are mismatched (same two on front, same two on rear)
-147,XXX
I am probably missing some things so please don't be afraid to ask anything.
The car is located in Ottumwa, IA.
I do have a loan on this car so the bank does have the title.
$12,000

Have any of the timing components been replaced?
Not to my knowledge. If the car does not sell, I will be replacing all timing components this spring and may post it for sale again but the price will also reflect the fact that all timing components will be new.

Also never hurts to make a reasonable offer.

Your current situation is not your final destination
Ambitious price.
7500 at best
I'm not sure why people who aren't even interested in the car feel the need to give their input on the price. This is a fairly rare car in good condition and is not only worth what every other e39 540 goes for and will probably take someone who appreciates and wants the exact car for it to sell.
I already have one of these my kid just wrecked so I may be in the market for another as the available number may now decrease by 1 more. They are deffinately getting hard to find and I know exactly what they are and what they are worth.. I also owned a 2003 Mspot 540i sedan 6 speed as well..
Anyone posting the lower prices.. please pass on any and all info as to where one of these may be found for less if that is at all possible. Not trying to hijack your post.. But I doubt anyone can show me 1 for sale let alone the prices mentioned.. I look everywhere everyday.
I will keep yours in mind for sure and if I get more serious about yours I will get a hold of you for more info.. Mine was an original owner car custom ordered fully loaded NAV etc. less than 53 ever produced (NAV) and total of these cars were less than 200 ever produced in any configuration...
good luck on the sale.. or congratulations on still owning a very rare very nice BMW some consider one of the best configurations ever built value for cost 2003 M-Sport 540i
Ditto on this. This car may not be worth $12-$15k in some of your eyes but I'm in to see what the market says. I have a touring that I have put a lot of work into and this is by far the most practical way to go about buying one of these. On top of all that, the VIN you have speaks for itself. These cars truly are something special. The closest you can get to the M5 Touring from the factory.
Best of luck to the seller!
I found another vehicle that I am interested in. Will entertain offers
Are you entertaining trades?
Only trade I would be interested in would be a 08-09 Subaru Outback XT
price drop $11,000 firm
Nobody wants a 2003 540 msport wagon??
I really would be if all my money wasn't being sucked into this

Very cool!
Will consider trade for rust free Toyota Landcruiser fj60 + cash
Sunroof is at least $1k from what I remember, I've gone through two. My 2c. Leaks can also be costly/significant..but then again, "worth" to the buyer is relative.

So there is a manual 2003 540i for sale here in SoCal. Needs love and the owner is in no rush to sell. But it is available. So if you're serious I can get you their contact info.
I know someone who wants this wagon as well. But your price is too high. Realistically you can get 7k for it. Timing chain guides are your main problem. But you're also an east coast car. That is negative point number 2. If you can let it go for 7k you might have a deal. Again might is the opportune word because of that whole rust issue you might have. Nice car and GLWS.
