Calling BMW Tech! I require the engine replacement spec sheets for 2014 435i! REWARD!

Howdy friends, I have got a 2014 435i with the X-Drive, and it requires a new engine. The factory warranty has been voided, and the vehicle is too new for me to find any information at my usual sources. I called my local dealer but they told me they couldn't help . I have a replacement engine but I don't really want to get into this without being certain of what I'm doing. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated and I will even include a reward for help to get my hands on a engine swap manual. Thanks!

What's an "engine swap manual"? What are "engine replacement spec sheets"? I'm sorry, but I think you're looking for something that doesn't exist. Are you looking for instructions?

If so, I'd likely say that you probably shouldn't attempt this job. To swap engines on this 4 wheel drive vehicle, you'll want to use a lift, and drop the entire engine, subframe, suspension, differential, and transmission and transfer case out onto a table, then (with added weights in the front of the car), lift the body up off the drivetrain. No, I am not kidding, this is how it's done.

How did you void the warranty? Aftermarket tune? Those "JB" tunes are enormously expensive, have killed more turbo engines and more warranties than I can count.

I'm not certain of the technical term but yes I am looking for instructions. I own a shop with a hoist and every tool in the book so no worries there. The car went through a puddle which voided the warranty and hydro locked the engine. Doing an engine swap is no problem I just haven't done one of these F32s before and I'm not sure if there is anything vehicle specific that I need to know hence the desire for instructions

The closest thing would be getting the Service Manual, Mostly every service manual has a section on engine removal. comes with all spec sheets for torque settings and how to break down the engine the proper way.

This is why I carry ........ insurance.

Call your insurance agent and tell them you went thru a puddle. Then have it towed to a dealer so a new engine can be installed.

You can buy a day's subscription to some professional tech websites, including BMW's own site, I believe. Others are Alldata and Mitchell. Alldata shows 26.5 hours for the swap, including transfer of parts from old engine to new.

Hmmm I haven't heard of any tech sites so not sure where to start there but I will call BMW Canada and see if they have any info on renting a subscription to their software. I have tried Alldata which shows the time for the swap but no instruction on how to do so. I haven't heard of Mitchell but I will look into that as well. Thanks for the tips!

The vehicle has already been through the insurance process. I am a dealer and purchased it after it was already written off and deemed Salvage status which voids the factory warranty.

The vast majority of the time, an experienced pro tech will be able to just "wing it", on a job like this. Please know that I've never worked on an F32.....(I work at a BMW/Euro specialist independent, cars this young go to the dealer)

But yet, BMW's have certain design similarities to earlier models, and , while I always have to get over nervousness about a model I'm unfamiliar with, I think an engine swap should be relatively straightforward, if you're familiar with the marque.

I'd personally drop the entire front subframe and drivetrain together, and probably not even look at the directions unless I couldn't understand how to attack a particular place.

IF you have a subscription to Alldata, and the data online is insufficient, CALL ALLDATA, they will fax you fifty pages within an hour. (This is really great when someone brings you an old Alfa with electrical issues)

Most of the time, you're going to come to a dead stop, using factory directions for something like this, because, like me, you won't own tool number 1 871 393. (I made that up) Certain tools, of course, you CAN'T do without.... but I'll bet you can swap an entire engine with the usual underhood engine hangers, t-stands, and a big strong metal rolling table, under your lift.

Unbolting the diff and stuff is a lot easier, when there's no car in the way. I'd recommend undoing the computer end of the harness, and dealing with the plugs and ancillaries, with the lump on a table.

But then I've not tried to find the instructions. I am absolutely NOT saying to ignore instructions; I've used ALLDATA for instructions on doing an R56 MINI timing chain today, though I've done the job twice before. And, um, I ignored the part about removing the entire front end of the car, hanging the engine by a chain and special tool brackets, etc, etc.
