No bashing here. Bilstein is a great product. I have them on both of my trucks. They can be a little harsh for the 8. They can cause the car to sit a touch higher. So I hear anyway. The real reason is, My springs were designed to be used with stock shocks.

There just seems to be so many people arguing that they are happy to be rid of Bilsteins, would not recommend Bilsteins etc.
Then again, I think you Americans might just be a bit soft. I had an Audi S4 and all reviews pointed to them being too firm, however I found it just nice. Having said that, I did come from a Japanese car where lowered springs were super firm because they're designed for perfect Japanese roads... to a set of KW coilovers wihch were super plush.
Maybe my Bilstein/Eibach will be ok...

I just ordered a set of these as well. I drive a LOT and the Bilsteins are just too stiff for me on 7+ hour drives and the rough roads of Northern California.
I will first be using these shocks with H&R fronts and cut stock rears. If it's still too stiff because of the springs then I'll be going back to stock springs.
On my next set, it'll definitely be revalved Bilsteins.
Why?
Perhaps not too many options out there. The big 8 does need to be a tad stiffer than what the stock boge offers. Staggs from Ebay could be the alternative but I'm just not sure of the quality and reliability, plug, made in China?
If you want a stiffer ride focus on the springs.
BTW, has anyone else noticed it is now only $120 shipped for all 4 TRW shocks from FCP?
I bought them just on principle because of the price.
That is crazy. I paid ( in uk) $600 and they come from France.
$30/shock? Come on... Kidding right?
I just checked. Rear 39 each front 80 something. Clearance. Well worth buying.
It's $39 for a pair of rears and $82 for a pair of fronts, my order was $131 including shipping for all four.

Stupidly cheap.
They sold quite a few sets to start with so must have ordered more. They are becoming harder to find in Europe.
TRW are now part of ZF - as are Sachs and Boge. I am surprised none of those bothers making shocks for the e31
Price go back up? Need all 4, can't find at that price.
I had a feeling it was a catalog error or something, but they shipped and they're on the way, it does look like the price went back up...
Did anyone buy a set for the price that they didn't need, that they would part with?
Unfortunately not, was out of the country last night and didn't want to put an order through with my CC. The fronts are up to $200 now. I admire them though, they honored their advertised price even though it was an error.
