    e23 Steering Idler Arm 32211123273 or 32211136450

So I am replacing the steering parts on my 85 735i.

I ordered Idler Arm 32211136450 because thats what realoem and others say is the correct part. Guess What?

    Too Short (bottom)

I ordered 32211123273, which I hope is the correct part.

FYI if you are ordering steering parts

Pretty common issue. Search for the user 'bondospecial' as I think he posted the correct information.
    I make E23 parts.

That was the center steering link, not the idler arm. He ordered a moog part which didn't clear the transmission. I forget what we guesstimated about that part, like it was for a manual trans car or a 3hp22 car or something, can't remember.

I measure the diameter of the bushing in the idler which can be done in situ and order the bushing. There is a 24 and 27mm bushing. The metal chunk usually doesn't go bad and the bushing replacement is a simple vice and correct sized sockets 5 minute job. Be nice to add you info on the correct idler to get to this thread so the info in out there.

I ran into this same issue recently. Hitman asked me to update this thread so that we have the final answer on these.

The top idler arm is my old one with bushing removed.

The second is the 32211136450 replacement that everyone lists. As shown in my pic and the one in the post above, it is too short. It might work if you had no other choice, but I doubt it. It is the idler arm for the e24/e28.

The third idler arm is the 32211123273 replacement that is listed for the 745i / Euro models. It is the correct size. The only difference is that it has a place to mount a heat shield that I assume is needed with the heat put out by the turbo system. See Pic #2

The fourth item down is a BMW bushing replacement for my old idler arm. part # 32211123464.

The fifth item is an OEM supplier bushing replacement. I ordered both to see what BMW used / uses.

The bushing in the new correct idler arm, the BMW replacement bushing and the OEM supplier are all BOGE brand. There is no visual difference, but the OEM supplier bushing is $20 less than the dealer supplied bushing.

    I hope this helps someone.

I just had this issue. Idler arm bushing and where it mounts to the drag link wore out before the tie rods.
