I have a easy question: does anyone know what is the BMW color code of the dark gray prime paint used in the standards E36 metal base of sideskirts body?
Thanks in advance

It's actually originally black, not grey. Most people use some form of trim black or suitable paint to redo it if they choose. Or drill and put on late-model side skirts.

I've seen several E36, really all are in dark grey
Anyone has idea?

That grey is a rubberised coating that's put on at the factory. It protects against rock chips. It's not paint so there isn't a paint code. Some people scrub it off so the original paint is revealed. Lots and lots and lots of work. I spent $3.00 on black spray paint and painted over it. Took a couple hours to mask and paint it.

Hello,
I got one...And even more!
Side skirts and base of bumpers color codes for BMW E36 BEFORE 1996:
-Link Hellgrau matt
-Link Dunkelgrau matt
Side skirts and base of bumpers color codes for BMW E36 AFTER 1996:
-Link Schwarz matt
Last but not least:
The "Schwarz matt/Seiden matt" color for E36 side skirts and base of bumpers is used by BMW since 1975 (with BMW 1502) till nowadays (with the recent i3-2017)! See my last link, lower in page.
This is the paint spray i bought from BMW for my E36 to transform her from a pre-1996 to a post-1996 one.
'Hope this helps.
This is complete BS dude...

man that flyfishvt guy is such a noob :P
Vike - well done, excellent info for those restoring their cars to original spec.
The spray can I bought to permanently fix mine says "Aircraft Stripper" on the side. I hope it works.
Eat, drink, and be merry - for tomorrow we drive.
Wrong.
The paint color codes you are reffering too are for the bumpers that are left in the plastic finish commonly seen on the 318. flyfishvt is absolutely correct. It's not grey, it's faded black and it's a rubberized undercoating that when soaked with a degreaser can be wiped off revealing the car's paint underneath. In fvagas' case it would be silver underneath.

Am I wrong? I don't mind being corrected and learning something I didn't know.
Hellgrau is light grey, which is not what is on the skirts/lower bumper.
I agree that that paint is the primer paint for skirts/bumper.
It would make no sense at all protecting the skirts/bumper with a different color paint if the factory color paint is underneath it. Protect paint with paint and then to add insult to injury, make it another color.
I don't think so.

Obviously none of know 100% what the correct answer is but here is my thinking on it.
It makes no sense for it to be primer if the original paint is underneath.
Its textured and it's definitely a rubberized type paint. Why would you use this type of product as a primer when you have the original paint underneath.
It makes no sense for it to be primer because there is no paint on top of it. Nobody applies primer and leaves it like that.
Theres a million other reasons why it really is just aprotectant application.

The bumpers/skirts in post #1 look like a different color from those in post #3.

No he is right. The giveaway is always the shutline of the wing/door continuing on the sills. Clearly visible at both cars.
It could be the lighting or even the color of the car influencing how dark it looks. On my black E36 the side moulding and such all look dark grey, while on my white dark look very black.

Pretty sure the rockers on my 92 sedan was dark grey, not black as I've seen on later models.
