There is a silver 95 CSI in the US asking price is 200K

I believe G8nightman is referring to the Hemmings listing for a silver '95 CSi with 30,000 miles in Cherry Hill, NJ, at "$249,000 OBO."
"No excuses investment grade car," with 170 photos available. That's only $1,465 per photo...its been around for some months; don't hold your breath.

Thats because not only is it a EURO spec csi (which has many more upgrades over NA spec and sells for double the price), but its also RHD in which only 160 examples were ever built (vs the 1,350 total csi produced in LHD).
As far as that silver "pipe dream" around the corner from me in nj, for his asking price one could import TWO euro spec csi and still have 10k left over... or 1 alpina 5.7 of which just 57 were built. There is a discussion on here somewhere about all this. I dont care how many miles that silver one has, I would never pay more than 50-55k today for a na spec csi, especially when you consider that a csi may just sold on ebay in the last 30 days for 30k.

Do we know for a fact that CD00224 sold on eBay in mid-December? I know that is what the listing says, but there seems to have been a surprising lack of "chatter" about this car, unless somehow I missed it.

Something smells fishy about this one. The listing description, although short, appears to be written by someone who knows e31's given they mention the e31 registry. You'd think they'd know the market and that they could probably have gotten 2.5 times the $29.9K sales price for a 36K mile CSI. Who in their right mind leaves that kind of money on the table? I doubt they sold it at that price just because they are a nice guy.
What also troubles me is the seller has a "0" feedback rating which means they are a new user. A lot of eBay scams happen from sellers with no history or feedback who create an account just to run a scam. I've seen this frequently, especially with watches listed for sale. The auction is usually caught by eBay and deleted (unfortunately I haven't found a genuine Rolex Submariner for sale for $999).

in Europe.... 50 to over 100K, but good one is 70K or up.....about the same as last year. 200K USD wow.....has to be factory new (it is alpina 5.7 pricing..... if you can find one).
BMW 850 CSI march 1994 (EU spec), SOLD. https://www.classiccars-forsale.com/...94-bmw-850csi/
BMW 850 CSI november 1994 (EU spec)
Euro spec CSI's have mirrors and AHK. US cars have more luxurious interior bits (wood). EURO cars are not double the value of US cars at all - especially as they are NOT RHD cars, as RHD diminishes, not increases the value. There's a reason most US CSI's sold today end up back in Europe...
Alpine 5.7's flew past the $200k mark years ago
The $30k eBay ad was a scam.
As for your 50-55k insistence, good luck with that today.
There is a nice black CSI out your way for $60k, which is actually a deal, in case you really want one.
Doesn't surprise me. I think the "seller's" goal was to list a phantom car for such a good price that someone would click buy-it-now with no questions asked. After the sale they would require a deposit within a certain amount of time and once they have the money they vanish. My neighbor's kid just got scammed out of $2500 after making a sight unseen deposit on an apartment in Seattle he found on Craigslist.
Remember, if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. We've got to be careful out there as e-commerce scams are getting more and more sophisticated. I worry most about my parent's falling victim to this sort of thing as they are not as internet savvy as younger folks.

Two thoughts:
1. Asking prices are absolute garbage as far as data points for determining the value of anything. In the more rarified realm of collector cars, too many “sellers” don’t even own or have rights to a particular car- they see the car might be for sale, they re-advertise with a super inflated price - in the hope they find a sucker and buy- and they resell the car to said victim. I can’t tell you how many times I have seen a car I was selling re-advertised in this manner. Sickening.
2. CSis are, by definition, the lowest manufacturing run of any production BMW. The cars are 20+ years old and each owner has maintained their vehicles to varying standards- mileage notwithstanding. That means there are so few relevant data points, there is no meaningful sample of completed sales data.
Ultimately this means, for CSis, the market is simply what an informed buyer will pay for a particular car- given a reasonable marketing effort/time.
My $0.02.
1997 Cosmos Black 850 Ci somewhere on PCH.
Personally. I dont't undestand these prices at all. In my definition, these cars aren't so special that they should be priced anything over 50k. Only something like M1 is justified for price tag over 200k

A couple people simply gave in to stupid asking prices and caused chain reactions in the market. Same goes for the clowns over at BAT that cheer people on into these sort of ridiculous deals.
Apparently I can no longer pick up a $500 E28 535is to drive into the ground, I'll have to spend about 13x that for a car with 220,000 miles.....

WOW!!! These cars go for so much in US??
Here in Europe they go for about 30-40 k for a really prestine one...some with so much kms 150k and above can go for 20-25k but with good history dated from purchase.
If anyone needs one I can gladly be of help in purchase.
20K Euro for a CSI. I'll take four thanks.
last time a CSi went for 20-25 was probably 10 years ago, and it was a fixer upper with neglect and/or accidents. In all my years of E31 ownership I have NEVER seen those prices for a decent CSi; unless as I said, it had issues. Today, 2018 is a whole other story, they are 4-6 times more all around the world, as they should be... and continue to do rise.

Agree, and disagree....Euro CSi prices are certainly not double those of the US cars, although lately they have been selling for generally higher prices.
And in general, RHD CSi prices are equal to or higher than those of comparable US-spec cars - partly because they have the higher Euro spec, but also due to their greater rarity and the fact that there are only around half of the original 160 units still on the road.

Most available are CI but CSI are abit hard to find but they are there,,, problem is that these days there are too many scammers even online there are cases reported of guys being scammed in Belgium and France where I operate. People here are afraid of taxes thus the reason why they are selling cheaply...
I can bet if the ebay advert for 30k was from Europe it might not have been a scam,,, as the market can sometimes be low.
