I recall seeing a pic but it's been so long that I don't even recall if the install was on an e38 or not. I'll be installing my set in the next couple weeks and recall a clean install of the extenders that wasn't noticeable but provided easy adjustment once the interior is back together.
Thanks!
Bump! I've only found pics for e39. Anyone with e38?

I also recall seeing this somewhere, but not sure by who. I'm sure I've seen them installed through the rear speaker deck for easy access.
You have to pull the sub box out. Which means rear seat, c pilar panels, package tray and sub box. Not impossible just time consuming.
It should also be mentioned that if you're not using the rear deck woofers and have your own sub installed, you can just pop out the speaker grill, reach in and adjust. I bought my extenders with the intention of installing them in a similar fashion until I realized I didn't need them.
I ended up routing them to the trunk. There many stamped out holes under the speaker deck and the extenders are long enough to reach one of those holes. Adjustment is possible with no issues, just have to pay close attention and feel those clicks.

Like I've mentioned previously, here is how I've placed my rear extenders, in case anyone needs an idea in the future.
