I forget what thread where we briefly discussed getting scammed online so thought I'd link this here. It's interesting. You'd think these guys who were scammed would be cognizant of such things. It was interesting they were blaming the USPS. I'm not going to go into how, but your system will know where you've been, what you've been searching, etc, and a scam can use this to make their scam evewn more convincing. I don't do anything financial over the internet save for ordering parts like most of us do. I have a single account I use to fund these purchases and that's it..
A great ending is all you'll see..

The bolts are E14's ... but the space is extremely limited ... I have seen Cnn's write-up using 1/4" e14 socket - is that what you did ?
Or , do you remove the half-shaft / drive axles in order the access the bolt heads ?
Yes, I did use CNN's bearing R&R write-up. I do remember that there was 1 of the 4 bolts I did not replace due to the limited space and I didn't want to remove the axel. I did have to wriggle the axel in and out a few times to get things in and out of place. If you get 3 of 4 bolts out, the last one can be loosened until the bearing is off, and the last bolt is hanging there to use on the new bearing. Hope this answered your question - I can't find my notes from when I did this.

Picked up a brand new steering wheel today from the dealer. Not cheap at $875, but better than retail of almost $1100. Yes I know there are good sellers who recover them for cheaper. But for this I wanted factory original with new trim as well while it's still available.

Feels so nice and definitely more thick than the old nasty worn wheel. Can't wait to get it installed20230519_184823.jpg

You'll love it. Any human interface, steering wheel, shift knob, arm rest, etc, really improve the driving experience imo..

Certainly a little thing, but I replaced my gummed up windshield washer nozzles with the Ford units that spray like a fan. Really covers all of the windshield, and I really like it.

    New 540 owner. Coming from a 530

So I picked up an 01 540 couple weeks ago.

    1. Motor Mounts. Driver side was way overdue!
    2. Drained Oil, Dropped lower pan. Happy to report no plastic bits anywhere. Tiny amount of play on oil pump chain. New pan gasket, used some Permatex 1 minute magic stuff.
    3. Oil level sensor O-ring
    4. Fresh oil and filter. Rotella T6.
    5. Replaced timing chain tensioner w/new crush washer.
    5. Used spray dish soap to clean around subframe.
    6. Cleaned splashguard.

Ran out of time. New plugs maybe tomorrow.

Who says it's NLA? Part number is 32342282020. Pretty sure it's still available saying mine has a 2021 date stamp inside it.

EDIT: Nevermind. I see you are referring to the wheel with the standard black stitching. Part 32342282025. Yeah mines the M5 wheel with M tri color stitching. 20230519_213928.jpg

Gave my 540 some much deserved love this morning.
Went to the quarter car wash this morning and spent $7 doing all the push buttons the box had then came back to the garage to clean the interior, clay bar the outside and then speed shine it. Did the engine compartment, trunk, wheels, tires, and windows too.
Ready for the BMW clean car show tomorrow, then on to the big ABQ car show.

Looks nice. Need to get that done on mine. How's THX doing back there? Haven't heard any updates on it for awhile.

    Looking good Jim.

If all goes well I'll take mine out of storage late next week. Finally got the Subaru finished.. so will clean up the garage tomorrow from that way too long repair and bring in the E39 for some very late spring time improvements.

THX138 was having a problem with the AC belt moving off the pulley rubbing on the compressor body.
The place I bought the bracket and compressor wasn’t much help. I kept telling them the compressor was too far forward.
The said I needed a new tensioner pulley, then said I had the wrong harmonic balancer. I called BS to both. I got them to give me some mounting bracket measurements from the edge to the mounting holes. Bingo, my holes were 0.2” off. I slotted the holes with my milling machine so I could slide the compressor back. The belt stays on the pulley now.
I’m also adding more support to the engine side covers from the frame. Those big front fenders are mostly supported by the side covers, some guys have had a few cracks so I figured I might as well be proactive.
Ross, I haven’t forgot about the smoke show, been too busy with house and yard upgrades.
SW, good job doing the paint on the Subie.

Today I washed the wagon again, clayed, and waxed the horizontal panels. Shiny! Then I washed the minivan red and shiny. Lol
then I spent the rest of the day claying, buffing and waxing a 2002 Boxster that had been in a garage for the last 4 years. Thank goodness it is Polo White. The amount of cleaning required is unbelievable. Next up engine, oil, and filters. Hey it runs on 4 year old gas. LOL

Gotta love it when manufactures refuse to admit they are wrong. Good to see you got it sorted.

Smart move on the engine side covers. Would really suck to see them get cracked after all that work.

Thanks. I forgot to order the fog light vent plates so put those on order and I still need to cut and buff the paint after removing the dust nibs. Maybe next week sometime. The process was fun, I really enjoyed painting and all the processes involved. I have at least two more small jobs to do to gain experience and then maybe I'll take on the bonnet of my E39..

Plug and play. Ford P/N: DM5Z-17603-A (C-Max units)

If you have the intensive wash there's some modification to the tubing making a Y junction to feed into it.

Here is an old thread on how to do this.
    https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...e-done-to-date

I used the Ford units as they are significantly cheaper.

Link to the specific nozzles. I replaced mine with the e60 (I think) nozzles and was completely underwhelmed. Post a video too if you can.

I also googled some info and vids on the nozzles, but I didn't find anything wow about the e60 nozzles, nor the ford ones.
I might try the e60 ones and see how they perform. If I don't like them, I'll switch back to the old ones.

The ding dongs at the most commonly recommended tint shop in town somehow managed to BEND the door lock pin rods on both of my front doors, on the passenger side it was bent so badly that it the lock pin was stuck unlocked and the door wouldn't lock. Which admittedly is way better than getting stuck in the locked position.

Took it as an opportunity to replace the actuator as well since I have 4 new ones in my parts stash which ended up being a pretty big pain in the butt since it was a first attempt but the next ones should be easier.

I still can't figure out how the heck they bent the door lock rods, those things are not easy to bend! They did a great job on the tint but come on guys. Every time I hire anyone to do anything regardless of how highly recommended they come they f*** something up.

I apologize I put the wrong Ford P/N in above. I have updated to reflect the correct Ford P/N: DM5Z-17603-A.

I remembered to take a quick video of my very dirty windshield this evening under gas station lighting. I hope it shows up well.

One of the skills I'm trying to learn is how to use PDR (paintless dent repair) tools. I'm looking at this set. Does anyone have any advice on the subject or can recommend a PDR kit? I'm not going to do it professionally of course, so the kit only has to work, lasting forever isn't a requirement.
A great ending is all you'll see..

Much better than the e60 nozzles.
