It’s pretty dang good. The clear looks a little “fresher/clearer” (for lack of a better term), but I’ll be doing a paint correction later this fall which should clear that up.

Just replaced the spring of the timing chain tensioner. Installed a new longer and much stronger spring. At 193 K miles, it should re-extend the lifetime of the original timing chain guides.
This is the third time I replace the tensioner or its spring on this car.

Been hearing a clunk for the last week or so, yesterday I really noticed the handling was a bit off.
Tomorrow the local CCA chapter is going on a long drive on the High Road to Taos, then to the Gas Pump Museum, and then to Sugars BBQ so I figured I better jack it up and take a look.
Busted front sway bar bracket on the drivers side. I fixed the pass side one last year. I had 2 spares that I got from the pic n pull last spring.

While I was at it I pulled the tension strut and replaced the bushing with a new BMW one. The tension strut is the original one that came on the car when new. I’m surprised that the ball joint was still tight, no play at all.
I'll do the pass side next week and then the 2 rear ball joints.

Thats something I will be tackling too, bought a pair of Meyle HD tension strut bushings from FCP last week during one of their sales. $46 each! Also got a new oil level sensor for the green booger wagon, and a new oil pressure sensor for the silver surfer wagon. These cars.....

Did a full brake job on the 540. Zimmerman rotors, ECS stainless lines, Stoptech street pads, ran about 2 liters of Pentosin DOT4 through the system.

Does anyone have Stoptech street pads installed? I called Bimmerworld and they suggested these as a good stock replacement with very low dust. They stop just fine, but the dust is as bad or worse than stock. Any 540 guys with low dust pads that they like? Im a fan of PFC-Z pads on my M3 but couldnt find them for the 540.

I have been very happy with the Bosch Quiet Cast. Minimal dust and they have performed well.

Hi Justine! How’ve you been? Are you still in that 335? Or did you get another E39? Luckily, they are easy to swap out, but I still have 1500 more miles to go before the oil change, my oil level is fine, think I’ll wait until it’s time for new oil, since the sensor mounts onto the bottom of the oil pan. My oil light never came on, but a couple weeks ago, my engine light tripped on while doing semi ludicrous speed out on the highway, had a short window, lunch break, running to the bank to deposit a check, I was flying and some kid thought he’d play race driver and tried to keep up, can’t even remember what kind of car he had, but I’m sort of recalling one of those stupid ScoobyDoo WRX’s, STI wanna be, mud flap morons, so I turned it up and gps says I hit 138mph, slowed down for this kinda tight interchange curve, slowed down to about a hundred, gazed at the speedo to see the engine light on, I’m thinking.... oxygen sensors, when I scanned the car later on after work, sure enough, oxygen sensors, car is creeping up on 90,000 miles, so it’s just about right. Already got new ones in, but the strange part, was that there was also an LCM code. Funny thing, when I gazed at the speedo and noticed the engine light, I looked in the mirror, the Subaru was way back there.... lol.

So I looked into the LCM code, and it was a thermal oil sensor code. Why is it triggering as an LCM code? I don’t get that at all. I googled it, and a few people have had that too. Strange. But it is not lighting up the engine light, or an orange oil light. Looked the part up, they normally go for $70, got on FCP, and they were having a sale, everything I needed was on special! The Hella oil sensor, $46, the oil pressure switch, $6, the oxygen sensors $62 each. Awesome, FCPeuro Rules!!! Got another order on deck coming up, new tailgate struts. I was loading in some groceries the other night, and the tailgate tried to chop me head off, but thanks to my lightning semi quick Snotty senses, I ducked and pulled my head away. F,kin car is trying to kill me, but only succeeding in occasionally pissing me off. FCP to the rescue! Is that a good plug? Or what?!?

The Akebono ceramic pads are the only low dust pads I've known people to like. Lower bite levels than OE, but they still stop just fine with more pedal pressure.

Finished my evo xr projector retrofit. Single best mod I've done to this car. Having issues getting the drivers light high enough adjusters are fine don't know why, the height adjustment is maxed out.

Yeah oem xenons. They do the test sequence upon start up where they move down then up. Wondering if being lowered a good bit is messing with the sensors.

After 3 years of procrastination I replaced the CCV cover and gasket. however this turned into removing the entire manifold and replacing all the gaskets and clean up. new plugs. I am chasing down a multitude of issues causing the venerable rough running and lean codes. I had the shop do a diagnostic and they said new MAF. new MAF coming tomorrow so lets hope!

If you unplug the MAF, does it run better?

Yes, it runs better. This was what the shop said they did to determined it was the MAF - if it runs better, you need a new MAF. Is this correct? I only drove it from the shop to home, about 10 min city driving but it was like normal with the MAF disconnected.

Welp I'm on the Fest and M5board, so might as well make it a hat trick and join this one as well hahaha.

Anyways, cleaned up the the interior on the beast earlier. Annoyingly I'll have to replace the dead pedal since it's broken. Also have to replace the drivers door sill trim piece because the "M5" part peeled off and got messed up when I shut the door. Have to get them replaced soon before BMW decides to snort crack again and quadruple the prices for them.

Ah, I still hate upholstery. After not having a rear parcel shelf for 4 months I've decided the perfect time to embark on this adventure would be 7pm on a Sunday.

But hey my headlights look better, yes my fogs are in the mail.

Jason, gotta keep the man cave spiffy. When my wife’s friends come over they ring the front doorbell.
When my car buddy’s come over they knock on the garage door.

I replace these bushings last year, maybe 15 months ago with Lemforders which leaked.
This time I bought them from (IIRC) FCP. They have the BMW logo on them and were made by Contitech.
The box they came in has correct BMW parts label and p/n on it.

Yeah, I plan on buying new bushings from FCP, probably Lemforders for $50 ...

I can't remember if I need to do an alignment after replacing the bushings, if I keep the arms still on the car ... lol
I have only replaced the whole arms with new Lemforder arms .
Oh , I added pictures of the leaking bushings ... ☹️👎

It’s a good indicator that the MAF is bad, assuming there are no vacuum leaks.

Thanks Nate. How's your M running? I'm hoping good after the rebuild lol. I forgot about the M5 owners club on facebook. Hope it's better than the regular E39 owners club lol. I joined that back in July, but left it after a few weeks. Couldn't stand the amount of idiots on there showing off their horrible mods with dumb videos and asking for help on the easiest of things to fix.

Running great 179,000 miles on it now, drove it for like 6 hours around LA last weekend. Have a big pending project - Supersprint headers - coming up soon.

Not at all like those groups. The ///M tax (and requiring a real M5 VIN to join) keeps those folks away, haha.
