Sorry Snotty, but my dog would have taken full advantage!!
I was going to post that I have been blessed, as I have HAD to do nothing to my e39 lately.
I know my days are numbered.
There are things I WANT to do, but there's no thread for that
Yeah man, I was on a cool run too. Nothing to fix, nothing to replace, for a while, until now.

That blows Snotty! The dreaded cable "PoP"
I just dropped a G note on 4 new Michy AS3's. 275-35-18 all around. Rides like a dream again! Love new tires.

Yep, pop it did, stupid Eek39 regulators. I just dropped off my style 65’s at my buddy’s shop next door where I work. I spun them on our wheel balancer, 3 out of the 4 rims were bent. His shop has the machine to straighten them all up. When I get them back, I’m going to prep them for powdercoat. Then I need to order two Conti DWS 275-35-18’s, I already have two new DWS 245-40-18’s. Got those about a month ago to soften the blow.

They seem to get minor bends on the inner barrel more often than others. Good luck on them. Going to ride perfect once done!

Yeah, I couldn’t believe how bad they got. They were straight when I lived out in Lovettsville, beautiful roads out that way, then I moved back to Alexandria, and man, the roads out here suck. Stupid local government spending all our road tax dollars on stupid agendas that help out losers from Squabobia, or something, totally neglecting our roads, place is a f’in joke. Wasn’t like that before.

Half a new exhaust. Kinda psyched. Deleted crap triangle flanges and opened up collector, upsized to 2.5” straightened out some bends and “upgraded” the factory cat inlets.
Oh yeah there’s a new clutch up behind that tranny too.

I am leaning towards of getting Style 66 17 inch 8/9"
First I wanted either 95 or 128 style, but for some reason I like those 66 so much, probably I will get them when good set will come for sell, and throw some fat tires.

I pressure washed and degreased the engine and subframe area of my project car in prep for new suspension parts and timing chain guides.
I shoulda taken before and after pictures. It's been a looong time since I've seen so much oil and dirt covering an engine.

Much better JC! 5.25 HP increase for sure. What clutch? Stage 3+ or what? Do tell. Pedal feel?

Actually my tech bud really does think there should be a little mini-power-bumpoid. The crap "temporary" stuff I had there before which was originally only suppose to be "stopgap until I can get back to the exhaust build" 4yrs ago was far more crap than I realized.
And yeah Jim, psyched for the V-bands. Actually my bud who helps with my heaving lifting is the most psyched that he doesn't have to keep screwing around with those old flanges anymore and the exhaust just falls out. When I get the rest done I'll prob opt for a 2nd Vband just after the merge which will be super sweet for maintenance. Next time I'll continue the 2.5" beyond the cats, possibly 2 little resonators, then merge into 3" all the way back to a new muffy at the rear.
She's still waiting my rebuild of the BMW Performance 6-pots, which were weird. They looked 100% perfect, but the small pistons (those calips have 3 different size pistons - 2 of each...) seem like they would get sticky and not extend so I was getting weird pad wear patterns. Braking 'felt fine' from the drivers seat but they weren't really working properly all the time. All the 1er 3er guys that use those pistons bitch and moan about the seals and pistons etc. and my take is the issue is with the factory pistons which are nickel plated aluminum. I suspect they bind up at temp or something. I didn't have the main prob those guys complain about at the track which is melting the boots and breaking down the ceramic piston insulator buttons, but, I suspect my symptom was caused by the same issues that cause those problems, and if I drove the car harder I'd have seen the exact same problems. Anyway.
Got the RB stainless pistons coming today I hope to go in with the new seals and silicon boots, and then she'll be back on the road hopefully Monday or Tuesday finally after being down for over a month. (Getting tired of A3 FWD life!)
Stainless piston-porn:
Clutch: Yeah went Spec 3+, the disk is WAY beefier than the 2+. Dual full face metallic, looks monster. SUPER light pedal feel compared to the 2+, but at this point with no front calipers it can only be driven around the shop / yard so haven't really gotten to check it out yet. Google says some of these Spec 3 and beyond can actually be super light pedal so I guess thats normal.
Interesting factoid, spoke w/ Spec and asked why, for the same stage, they spec a different PN for M5 vs 540 even though the torque rating is identical and we all know the bolt-up is identical. They told me that the only difference in the kits is the TO bearing stack height. M5 gets a slightly different one. I have an M5 slave cyl so I went with the M5 PN, but I'm pretty sure either would in reality work fine.

Inneresting on the pedal being lighter on the 3+. I guess the friction coefficient is that much better that they can reduce the clamp load or something. I hope it works well for you. We all know that clutches suck on these cars once you up the power. Too small, so that creates compromises.
Also interesting on the stack height diff on the M5 vs 540. Must be very minor difference as i noticed nothing when going M5 clutch kit with the 540 slave. Felt factory perfect in all respects.
Fancy stainless pistons! Do they have heat isolation stuff on the faces?

Got the M-Sport bumper installed, forgot to include the Styrofoam supports on the top side of the bumper cover and metal part, so it will come off again, but also covered diffuser with 3M Black Carbon Fiber vinyl. The YouTube videos make vinyl look easy, but even on a small part like this I was not able to get a perfect fit. Next time I'm paying someone.
One of the POs removed the resonator and the car had a replacement muffler, with a slight growl. My son wanted more so I installed Magnaflow glass flow through resonator and Magnaflow 14" muffler for a more aggressive sound, with a double tip exhaust. Setup was $275 out the door.

Installed the external temperature sensor repair kit on my project car (540i). I had to science the sh*t out of it.
New "porkchops" are on my list but toward the bottom - after suspension and timing chain guides.

Picked up a set of 4 Bosch O2 sensors and NGK 6418 Spark plugs to combat the terrible city mileage we're getting. I have no idea how many miles are on either of these components, and I ran a tankful of LM Jector 2007 through the car and went from 11.5 to @12.5, so we still have some improving to do. Hopefully this will help. I don't think replacing the CTS will help like it did on our former Passat....
Replaced the rear door lock actuators "as a precaution" on my project car. The guy I bought it from said the locks were "a little slow" to come up. I didn't want to take any chances.
