Yeah I also can't see this car as a daily driver (maybe RS6 would be cool), only as a backup car or winter beater

Got new thrust arm/control arm/tie rods installed on the car, along with random o2 sensor replacement. "Death shakes" now gone, only slight pulsating remains when braking. I'll chalk that up to needing new rotors. Guess thats next on the agenda

I'm in the middle of doing this on my 530i as well, the death wobble was the worst I've ever experienced. Thrust arm bushings completely torn out. Yep the remaining vibration is probably the brake rotors.

While swapping snow tires and wheels onto my 530i, discovered a broken rear sway bar link. Made a short 4 min video on the removal/installation:

Tightening the bottom one is pain, not much wrench swivel room.

Got the snows delivered, and the steel wheels. Didn't need alloy, plus 15" fit fine on the 6 cyl e39s.

The Ikea bag makes a very handy suspension carrier. Rears in one bag, front in another.

Finally got around to overhauling the front end on the 530i. Car has had a bad shimmy around the 65mph range and under braking since i bought her from Bryson in June. One of the first things i inspected was the suspension, and saw worn thrust arms and passenger inner tie rod.

Took care of other pressing matters and finally got around to this point. Just went with an Amazon-purchased kit as funds for Lemforder or Meyle aren't in the current budget. But for $180 shipped, i got both inner and outer tie rods, lower control and thrust arms, and sway bar end links. Purchased new boots and clamps separately through my shop.

Pain in the a$$ removing 270k mile original parts, but finally made headway and the car aligned perfectly within specs. So nice to finally have a smooth, comfortable BMW in my life again

Wow, 270k miles on original suspension components? That's impressive. Usually past 150k they're all beyond shot.

The shocks and struts had been done at some point, but all arms were original. And it definitely felt like it lol

    Loose and wandering? Been there!

Don't overlook old tires. I chased vibrations in my 530is a time or two that just turned out to be worn tires.

I washed my newest obsession. Tubi resonated X-pipe and mufflers, brake ducts, Dinan camber plates, springs, JRZ dampers, and rear sway bar (aka Dinan suspension Stage 3). Buggy Mediabridge (which will be tossed out shortly in favor of factory ULF and bluetooth streaming via aux) singing through M-audio.

    I love it

I'm sure you would, but they're not for sale

I do have the factory struts in boxes. I need to shove them somewhere in my garage out of the way.

Haha fine fine. Im actually planning on getting a custom set of JRZ 3 ways next year if all goes well.

Well, now that you have a decently equipped M5, you plan on coming to the track with me?

Graham and I replaced a leaky water pump, intake manifold gaskets, and a bunch of vacuum lines on our oversized, Range Rover-shaped E39:

And just like a real E39, the thrust arm bushings are shot:

Not without some braking upgrades, and it needs some minor rust repairs first and foremost; it's an ex-Chicago car.

The interior is beautiful in this thing, so I'm just going to make it the nicest daily I can.

You just need some good pads and fluid. Im still running front stocks and have been able to outbrake most E46 M3 drivers with similar track experience

Yeah, I have no idea what pads are on it now, but they're not great. Might be stock. They heat up quickly. One 130-70 when warm and they're vibrating like crazy. Nice street manners, though; silent, smooth, and not terribly dusty.

One last wash before putting it up for winter. Will change the oil, check air pressures and hook up a battery tender.

I sold my e39 today. Maybe I’ll be back again sometime. This community is awesome. The knowledgeable folks have been super helpful and responsive. My car broke constantly, but there was always help. Thanks!
