and sadly no old BMW anymore, only high powered Seat Leon Cupra 4Drive as a daily driver.
BMW mirror mounts are fairly standardized... there are some exceptions but for the most part after the mid-90's I believe you can swap mirrors from just about anything to just about anything. I run a mirror from a 750 in my E46M3 - which had the little undersized oval M mirror that sucks anyway but also that way I added homelink. Kinda wish I got one w/ a compass too but hey - just another thing to look around for at the 'yards. There are a few weird things to know like the 'vert mirrors have extra wiring in them for the remote locking antenna, so if you're swapping into a vert you have to transplant that, or if you're swapping out of a vert there will be some unused wires... But mostly its plug & play AFAIK.

Yep, same mount.

Another cheap Dorman DISA valve bites the dust. Replaced mine today with a Rein unit, hopefully it lasts. If not, will go genuine BMW next time! The low-end torque and power is totally restored, what a huge improvement it made!
Have a listen to this horrendous noise:

Last week got a genuine BMW Touring Spoiler installed on my ‘03 M-Sport. Luckily, it too was already painted in its original color Titan Silver.IMG_1165.jpg

Dude you're really scraping the bottom of the parts quality barrel there! Are you on a super budget these days, or are you doing some kind of expose article on "how bad ARE crappy aftermarket parts anyway?"
Rein prob ain't gonna be much better than the Dorman. Might be exactly the same bottom of barrel part factory with a different brand on it really.
You know about the rebuild kits for those that are better than factory? These depend on the actuator not failing but as you might know its not usually the actuator part that fails, its the flapper related parts.

We use Rein for a lot of stuff. They make good quality cooling hoses for much cheaper than OE, I only ever use OE or Rein hoses. Wouldnt be afraid to try a DISA but Id rebuild my original one if possible

Some of the Rein stuff is still made in Germany, but yeah the quality of the Chinese Rein Disa didn't feel inspiring. Though it is 1/2 the cost of Genuine BMW part and comes with a lifetime warranty from places like FCP Euro.
I'll report back results when/if it breaks down! FCP said the failure/warranty rate of the Rein part is the same as the Genuine part.
I'm not sure why he said Rein is the OE part. The OE, as in, original equipment part is "Genuine BMW" with a roundel stamped on it. Those are Made in Germany of the nice quality you'd expect for $300.
The Rein part is definitely a third-party, cheap aftermarket Chinese Disa. Let the count-down to destruction begin!
Why not order one of the aluminum flap kits off ebay, or a legit one from GAS, and not ever have to worry about it? At that point the only thing that could fail is the vacuum pot diaphragm thing.

Found the source of the groan/vibration that cropped up yesterday. Power steering pump broke:

In the nick of time I got a new set of tires on my new winter wheels and swapped on my new winter wheel/tire combo: Borbet Type H (hubcentric to the E39 woohoo!), and Nokian HAKKAPELIITTA 3 225/55/R16.
Now I want a Limited Slip Diff from Wavetrac to make snow days REALLY fun....

My E39 went to winter sleep, but took out Audi to play with it, when the snow comes.

Looks familiar. I used to have a C5A6 in blue. Put a supercharger on it, some other stuff. Hated the car by the time I traded it in, but, that was mainly because it was poorly bought by me (probably had been in some kind of major accident / repair before I got it... lots of little stuff was 'just not right' with it). But it made me hate C5's. The interior quality is kinda crappy on 'em and the styling isn't really great... but sure, I'd still take one as a 'winter beater'.
