Maybe, but not significantly. Most vehicles with carbon build up problems have it on the intake runners and the back of the ignition valves, but our M54s have it on the oil control ring, below the top two compression rings. The known way to currently remove that carbonized oil build up (without taking the engine apart) is to soak the piston in something like AC Delco X66P just before an oil change, hoping that softens up the carbon.

The best known fix is to install oil control rings from an M52B28TU, or install the updated, higher-flow Mahle piston rings.

That's pretty poor. My 530i5 with its oil pan gasket leak goes about 1 qt every 1500 miles.

Yes that stuff. But the have a stage 3 kit that comes with that foam, an rinse and the a bottle of stuff that goes into your fuel tank. Right now I'm at 1 qt for ever 2,000 mi on my 530i/5 with 143k. I still love the car but currently looking into getting a 540i/6 that supposedly has a blown motor which I will probably make a thread about to get the forums opinion.

Got a couple designs drawn up to be 3D printed. Need gauges within visibility for track days. Dont want to do A Pillar due to airbags, at least not until I get a full cage and remove them. Steering column blocks visibility and is still not easily seen in my opinion. Dont have AC Any more so not worried about that.

Also made plans to meet up with a friend that will be making roll bars for us, using my car(with M5 seats) to make a template. Will share company info when they are ready to be released, likely in a seperate thread.

And still waiting on ECS Tuning to send my TMS oil temp sensor housing since the first one was missing all of the holes. And also waiting for my Gulf filter housing to come back from being Anodized.

Hey! If you want to sell that stratification vent, let me know! I need one for my little project, converting the puke brown upper dash to black, also doing the upper door panel sections. I have everything, including a brand new vent that I bought a while back. I did a move, now I can't find the vent. Let me know!

I like the center position best. Looks the most factory and cleanest. I wonder if you could print slats in there and still get some airflow.

Filled the car up with gas earlier.
Getting ready for bed, and the wife asked why she was smelling gasoline...
I ran out to the car in the garage, pulled the rear seat, and opened both tank caps and found a puddle of gas on the driver’s side (left side) gas tank cap.

Ill see if my guy would be able to make slats for those that would be interested, though mine wouldn't necessarily need them. Depends if he wants to open up the market for the E39 and how much legitimate demand there would be

Practically zero, unfortunately. I was just thinking that you could keep the center HVAC vent somewhat functional.

Interesting choice on making the E39 into more of a dedicated track car. I dunno if I'd ever want to strip my car's functionality to that extent, I'd rather buy something smaller and more track-oriented if I were really into track days. The beauty of the E39 to me is that it can be quick and take corners well, but it's also a reasonably comfortable highway cruiser.

Right, and all of the (admittedly small) modifications I've made to this point has been to enhance one of those aspects without unduly compromising the other.

This chassis has a very special place in my heart. It has literally saved my life. So ive dedicated myself to giving it my all. We build dedicated track BMWs at our shop, and its awesome to have a new platform to work with.

New to the forum, have not posted my ride yet but I had the infamous seat twist. Shortened the shielding on the cables as I saw in the videos and it really did work.

Spent Tuesday ripping the front end off of Frankenbimmer...just to replace a bad hood lock. Then put it all together, including a never painted, factory primered aftermarket hood.
Oil was really low, it needed 3 quarts.
The hood still hangs up a little bit. I think I need to loosen & adjust the hood or hood locks just a little bit.

Next step will be getting a new paint job sometime this year.

Degreaser, sanded and sprayed hi temp(2,000°) primer on M5 rear calipers. Will be painting bright yellow tomorrow. Hoping it will be a close match to the Stoptech yellow. Will be rebuilding calipers as well, with brass bushings from Bimmerworld. They will be mated with Zimmermann E46 M3 ZCP rotors and PFC or Hawk pads.

Also, gave my center vent to the gentleman that will be doing my gauge pod. He's debating on doing one where there will be 1 or 2 pods So that the vent can remain functional if there is any interest out there.

He will not be selling them, but we will be able to send the CAD file to whoever may be interested in having it printed themselves.
