This weekend our first BMW was purchased. 2000 258i . My 17 year old sons eclipse GT transmission died he made a serious switch in vehicle styles. previous owner had all paperwork for scheduled service work. And a lot of other things done. Unfortunatly didint keep the interior worth a crap. So yesterday was cleaning and combing the local LKQ pick a part. Got a few steering wheel stalks his dog had chewed the old ones. Going to have to change the speed sensors. Odometer an Speedometer dont work. debating on just changing all, they are at least 12 years old. Now just got to find some seats or good seat covers.

Yesterday at work I swapped out the 2 year old coilovers for stock suspension in the rear. I'm off today but tomorrow I'll be swapping in the stock struts in the fronts and then the coilovers will be on for sale. Anybody that might be interested in let me know through pm. I'll let it go for $400. These are Fortune Auto 500 series with 8k spring rates in the fronts and 7k spring rates in the rears. These are ride height adjustable and if I'm not mistaken are 24 ways adjustable for soft/harsh ride.

Sure, you'll need to remove the paint so the bonds will stick to the metal.

    Switched around FSU's again.

19Year old Valeo only works on low speeds. (Was like that for 6years of owning car before i decided to replace fsu)
1week old Meyle burned up & stopped working on all speeds.
2week old eBay special didn't burn & stopped working on all speeds randomly one startup. Worked fine when ignition was turned off at service station. Turned ignition on, Kaput, dead, Rip.

I de-potted the Valeo tonight, re-soldered the fet legs. Will see if it works on high & low fan speeds. If so, I'll put my replacement chinese special in for another 1-2weeks.

All wiring good, fuse good, relay good, correct voltages being output from the IHKA.

Looks like I have to pull the dash to replace an in theory "power hungry" blower motor.

    Yay!

Really wish those PWM APSX FSU's still existed that were made by wide-band.com

    Cheers
    Mat

If you don't care to do it properly, sure.

I see the metal is bulging outward, so at the very least you're going to want to knock down the high points. The body shop would do this by welding on a small peg at the middle of the gash then yanking on it with a slide-hammer. Then grind off the peg.

Then they would do a skim of Bondo, more sanding, and spray.

If you want to DIY, Harbor Freight sells a stud welder for $100, and then sand/prep/spray with a color-matched aerosol (like those available from AutomotiveTouchUp.com) and finish with a 2-part aerosol clear coat.

This sheetmetal is extremely tough. I've had a couple of accidents in E39s, one directly in this area, and the body shop mentioned how tough this area was. A photo from their repair work showed more than 40 (!) spot welds in the rocker panel.

In a BMW engine?? "In case you need to look for a leak", you always have leaks and usually plenty of them.

Mine burned quite a bit at Big Willow yesterday. Seems as if the OSV was having a bad day. Cleared up by the time I got home. Only got 2 sessions in before smoked out the course. Lol.

Does anyone from here actually use the classifieds for e39 parts? When I went over there it's all e36/e46/e90 parts.

I've got E39 parts listed in a few different sections of the non-panjo classified.
Your correct, most seem to be 3 series parts.

Thanks for clarifying Jim. I guess it wouldn't be amiss to at least mention I've got some stuff for sale, 2 sets of seats and some titan trim. Hopefully that's not out of order. What do you have listed?

    Pure anger?

The older fat core heatsink Valeo use a softer potting compound almost like a high density poly.
Just used a hobby knife & a small flat head screwdriver then the tip of the soldering iron turned down and just wiped it all over the place to clean up where I was soldering.

Will test it when I need to drive the E39 again.
