Ok, I think I addressed the issues I had with regards to the “engine failsafe prog” after replacing the ccv. Looks like the elbow that the vacuum hose connects to was actually pulling out of the ccv cover. This was likely a result of wrestling with that hose trying to get it shipped over the barbs. After fixing that and reinstalling the ccv the engine is idling a little high. I hope that it’ll settle back down after driving for a while. I should have a code reader in a couple days, but I have no warning lights.

Ordered a Shark Injector for the 530i5 from Turner. Interested to see what it can do, vs. the MS43wiki stuff.

My Fortune Auto coilovers showed up today. One week turned into one month. Car rides so much better again. They make a nice coilover just suck at customer service and being organized. A couple of the nuts on camber plate were chewed up,would think for over $300. they would a been replaced.
    Oh well.

Cleaned throttle body, ICV, and DISA. Removed the SAP along with attaching parts. Broke the small hose going to the little "F" fitting on the intake and fixed it with some heat shrink until I can find a new hose. Ordered oil filter housing seal. Gave her a hug and told her everything will be ok!

Then again, everyone is usually doing 70-90 on the local highways and byways. I average 70-80 and usually have people flying past me.

It's an option on some E39's where the windshield has a layer of, I wanna say IR tint(?) in the glass, and it keeps cabin temperatures cooler in the heat/sunlight. I noticed the difference in the summer. I had to replace my windshield and decided to order that one for not much more. I went OEM, not sure if its something available aftermarket because I didn't check. I also love the way it looks when the sun hits it in the right spot.

It's also standard on some BMW models as well as other brand vehicles.
There was a #354-Green Stripe Windscreen option under the standard equipment when I looked the options for my car under www.bimmer.work .

I’m an idiot and bought two of the right side in between brake line so I just ordered the left after I discovered the mistake. Also bought a new trans pan gasket because the one I just did is leaking pretty bad so hopefully the shop will do a better job than me. Can’t wait for the car to come back I seem to have a tiny oil leak at the back of the motor so I plan to check the valve cover gasket and do the vanos seals when I have more time and money.

The green stripe is standard equipment for US cars, I think.

Was able to get a good deal on some 17" Borbets Type E's with Blizzaks for under 300. Doesn't look too bad. Also put on new rotors and pads because they were toast. I painted the hubs on the rotors to prevent corrosion between the wheel and hub. I think it looks nice.

Yeah, my car originally came with the green stripe as well. I had to choose option S358A (comfort screen) and Rain sensor when I replaced mine. I ended up with part number 51-31-8-259-324 from the ETK.

I see you have a 525i. I used the same option code and came up with the same part number. This was one of the posts i came across before pulling the trigger...

I've been driving my 2000 540it for the past two days after driving the Corvette for two weeks. What a difference! BMW did a great job with the E39 though, because my 540it hardly feels bigger than the Corvette and I barely notice the extra 800lbs it has. The interior feels really solid in the 540it though, I was getting used to the somewhat subpar GM interior in the Corvette so getting back into an E39 really made me appreciate it.

What calipers will you be using? I'd like to do 6 piston fronts/4 rear at some point.

My stock windshield does not have the rain sensor.

I stopped by the local windshield repair shop on the way to work this yesterday morning, and had the rock chip in the windshield repaired for ~$32.
The guy told me that the factory windshield glass for my car (E39) is by Sekurit.
However, he looked to see if anything other than the aftermarket Chinese glass was available for my car, and there was nothing...
He echoed what I was thinking, that the value of these cars is so low, and these cars are so old, no-one keeps the factory glass in stock.
The only way to get OE glass it seems, is to get it from the dealer, unfortunately...
He mentioned that he could call Sekurit direct, and ask if they have anything in their warehouse, but it would cost about mid-price cost (~$300), but if I did order a new windshield, to just wait until after the winter time, because there will be massive rocks and sand dropped from the city put on the streets.
He did repair the rock chip, and it is much better in appearance, but it is still there, and it looks like there is permanent bug splatter on the glass.
I am hesitant to have the Chinese glass windshield on the car because I don't want to have obscured vision looking through the glass.
It is sad that my car is seen as a beater now...

    E82 135i calipers/BMW PBK.

Today I fitted my Siberian Bushings yellow PU front & rear sway bushings 24mm front & bought 14mm rear & used a 16.5mm drill bit to enlarge to fit my M5 rear sway, worked a treat!

Yesterday did a full window scrub on both cars which really needed it - windshields had that filmy quality where they just don't clean up fully, and had the nasty hazy film on the inside too. Now everything is crystal. Started doing wipers too but found myself short on E46 wipers in inventory and my E39 'good' ones were just old arms with new refills... time to order wipers for all the cars...

Also cleaned the connector on my FM antenna amp in the back and voila!!! Notably better reception! Nice. gotta love Deoxit contact cleaner.

Jason I've had this come up before with glass guys and I'd just say don't trust the guy completely. "Trust but verify" as they used to say about nukes. I've had glass guys tell me that but what it really means is "from my suppliers all I can get is Chinese glass". Meanwhile a relatively good Pilkington or other brand name glass was actually available, he just didn't have distribution access to it.

I could use a new windshield myself but have been waiting for a big crack / ding so I can get it covered free via insurance... if truly only cheap generic glass is available, that's a bummer...

I'm having the glass dilemma as well. the M5 has a scratch-arc on it from a bad wiper. I've been told I can get it replaced by the shop that did my 528i for $250. I'm happy with the glass in the 528, so I think I'll be ok with the job they do on the M. They took care removing the glass not to scratch the A pillars, etc, and keep the interior clean. I'm going to wait till after winter to do it probably and replace all the cowl plastics at the same time.

I had my windshield replaced back in '06. The shop got the glass directly from my local BMW dealer. Back then I was told they had to get it from BMW as they were the only one that had a replacement with the tint at the top and the attached clips for the rain sensing wipers.
The lower corner has the BMW logo and says Splintex on it.

I called another windshield shop today, and he says that he shows either a PPG (PGW now), or a Pilkington windshield in some other warehouse.
He says that the PPG (PGW) is probably Chinese made, and the Pilkington will probably be either Chinese or US made, and that Pilkington has manufacturing all over the world.
His view was that there was no difference between the Chinese glass and the PPG or Pilkington, because they are all made in the same Chinese factory, but just have a different label on the glass.

I tried explaining that the OE manufacturers will probably have a better / higher quality standard than the regular Chinese windshield glass.

I don't think he believed me...

About 3 years ago, you could get the OE glass installed for about $200.

I would honestly say even the Chinese made glass will hold up as good as the original glass. I've had mine replaced by Safelite a couple of years ago and it's still looking fine and clear. No pitting yet. Unfortunately, I encountered another rock chip crack thanks to a truck on the highway which I'll try get it fixed rather than replacing it again.
