Gonna replace the hoses with new OEM ones and get the 88c thermostat. Yay, more money to spend...

Completed the break in of the vanos seals on my 530i5 with 176k miles. Initial impressions show increased torque throughout the power range, particularly around 3k when I’m cruising at 80 mph in 5th I can overtake much easier than before. Haven’t noticed much an an improvement in gas mileage. This all could also be because I fixed a misfire when I replaced all the plugs at the same time. Either way, car is fun to drive again!

(yesterday) Facing a bit of a jam and not being able to drive the car for a few days, I made a frankenporkchop for my passenger side wheel well out of 2 broken ones, including some "enhancements" and refitted it. Gonna start a thread on those damn things when I get more time. Reinforced it with a strip of aluminum stock and replaced the crap stock bumper-clip with a piece of aluminum angle. 1000x more better. Have thoughts on why those things suck so hard.
Ooof. Bummer man. Did the clip pop off somehow? The facelift style clip hoses work surprisingly/oddly well normally. Which way was your causation - do you think you had overheat which caused extra pressure to blow the hose, or did the hose blow on its own? I prob should take this to another thread given how I'm normally lecshuring about that...

I just left my stock pre-facelift pork chops on the car and zip tied everything into place. Zip-tied the temperature sensor to the bumper structure so it's not scraping on the ground. I'm not about to spend money on the $300 M5 pork chops/

I hear you! I just had my VANOS replaced and car feels so much better than before. Although the shop tested my old unit and it passed (but engine was warm). The cold idle jolt is gone and feels much more responsive, especially when cruising at 80 as you mentioned. Gas mileage for me was greatly improved. I also recently did 6 coils & plugs, front O2's and CCV system so im sure it all helped.

Fortune-Auto get's $110 a pair for rebuild, plus extra $$ if other new parts are needed. I'm getting charged $ 310. to rebuild my pair because they couldn't get the front mounts loose on either front coilover. Yeah Coilover mfg. that can't take their own stuff apart, impressive right. SO if thet ever get done I will
have all new coilovers except shaft and camber plate. In the fourth week of waiting so will see. I would consider other options if I were you. They will stop rebuilding them at some point. They already stop servicing Generation 1,2 and 3.Definitely a limited life span.
Removed most of the interior for cleaning.
I just bought it and it is nasty.. Has almost 200k on it.

Posted a new thread asking about the difference between the pre-12/01 and 12/01+ guide links. I'd appreciate any thoughts you guys have.

Hard to explain, but the rubber hose part, that has that thick metal ring around it, separated from the plastic coupler that connects to the thermostat. I was easily able to reconnect the rubber hose to the plastic lip but I needed a hose clamp to keep it on there securely.

Here's some before and after of the door panels. Just some cleaner and some restorer on the leather.

Also, as an FYI.. aftermarket ABS sensors work just fine... and for 1/4 the price.

Started torquing my suspension refresh will need to preload today to finish torquing I’ve learned my lesson with cheap parts on BMW and with preparing for set backs. This suspension refresh has taken forever because I kept having things screw up and then had a part quality issue that has been resolved. I will be so glad to have it done next time I’ll just save for better quality parts from FCP and someone else to do it.
Also did drilled slotted rotors and pads and I will be having the shop do all new rubber brake lines.
I know it’s hotly debated and I’ve read a lot about it I’ve decided not to go with a weighted alignment does anyone have any rear camber recommendations? My plan was to go with the far end of spec towards tops out to offset my weight and my families weight. Yes my wife and I are somewhat big people being 300lbs myself.
Also all brand new pulleys up front and a brand new Bosch alternator and brand new Blau struts.
Need some help, I finished tearing down the engine bay last night for the new cooling system parts to go in and noticed while removing the rad hoses from the thermostat and water pump outlets that there was a plastic ring and rubber o-ring around the metal necks. Do I need to reuse these with the new hoses or do the new hoses come with these parts.. OR do I need to purchase these parts separately? (M62tu)
you can see on the thermostat side the rings are present, and not on the other side (water pump side?)

Those are part of the hose, looks like they just came off your old hoses. Remove them and then install the new hoses, those parts will already be inside the new hoses.
And for what it's worth you can take those bits off and put em back inside the hose and it'll seal just fine, as long as the rest of the hose is in good shape.

Right? Our e46 was constantly having the trifecta lights after replacing the control arms, guessing we messed up the wires while tugging on the knuckle end. Hasn’t come on since replacing with aftermarket sensors.

This hose can suck it! And so can the BMW hose clamps.
