Awesome work JP !
Looking for an E39 belly pan , passenger front inner fender liner …
It has been forever since I've listed but I've got a laundry list of things in doing after my board exam. But today, I replaced the assisters in one headlight. Coming up
Changing
All coils
All of sensors
Tan to black interior conversion
And more.
Got the sleeve off of the thrust arm ball joint. I used the Scwaben 20 - 80 ball joint tool with an appropriately sized socket over the top of the spindle to give a better purchase. It popped off easily. I don't know why it didn't do this when the sleeve was in the steering knuckle.
The sleeve is now in the freezer overnight to "shrink". I bought a torch to heat the steering knuckle - and I'll do that it the morning and then hopefully the frozen sleeve will drop right in and I can get it all put back together.
I got the RHS thrust arm in place in the meantime - without torquing the bolt through the bushing. That's for later.

You'll find it will press right in to the knuckle with minimal. Effort using a normal G clamp, especially if the steel is in the freezer.
I'd advise against heating the alloy with a torch myself...

I'll try it without heat first and then.... Interesting perspective because all I've heard lately is to bring the heat, it seems.

I had the passenger side corroded tail light connector. The pins were solid rust and none of the pass side lights worked. Instead of replacing a perfectly good tail light assembly, I spliced in some molex connectors by drilling into and soldering wires into the metal plates that correspond to each pin. Now everything works!
Prepped my M front bumper for paint tomorrow. Came out very good considering I'm using spray cans. Anyone have tips on installing the fog lights and fog light covers. Is everything supposed to slide in place? I don't want to scratch paint trying to install.

Would you mind explaining a little more? I got the bumper from someone selling their e39 and it was never installed? Wasn't sure if I was missing any hardware. But for $100 I figured why not. Does the fog install from the top or bottom, and the the cover be but in first?

is the bumper OEM or aftermarket? The hooks on the fog lights don't line up with the bumper so you won't get a snug fit. What I did was put the fog lights into the fog light trim piece and then popped it into the bumper. Basically I didn't secure the fog lights tontje bumper at all because the trim piece holds the fog light to the bumper rather tightly.

I had good results using a rust removing solution - "Metal Rescue Rust Remover" - and soaking the pins and the taillight socket for a few days. Perfectly clean when I removed them. Make sure to replace the taillight gaskets so that the water can't get in to rust them again.

Pressed in the steering knuckle sleeve on the LHS for the thrust arm on the 528i (M52). Here are a few pics.
1. C-Clamp set up. It's massive and usually used for the rear ball joints. You can see the aluminum bearing press plates that I'm using to distribute the force a bit better.

2. The goop I put on the sleeve for retention. Usually used in hotter environments in the engine - but should work here.

3. The frozen sleeve in place. I decided to try pressing it without heating the steering knuckle.

4. Clamp on pressing sleeve into place. I was able to turn the 'screw' by hand for most of the pressing except the last 1/4 inch or so.

Here are a few more pictures showing that the cap on top does not sit flat on the knuckle - along with a view of the same sleeve top on the RHS.
1. View of LHS cap after pressing. I put the clamp back on and pressed it a bit more after this.

Completed my steering wheel re-wrap. Final results are... okay. The fitment of the "cover" was decent-ish, but is a little loose near the 9-3 grips. I hope that tightens up with age, but who knows. I wonder if I could squeeze some sort of foam in there to firm things up a bit.
There's less slack on the left side than the right (which is good, seeing as how I drive with one hand at 9 o'clock always)

But a little more on the right.

Backside has more wrinkles/looseness.

Overall, I'm satisfied. I'll probably have at least one of these wheels professionally refinished at some point, but I don't have the budget for that now. This will hold me over until that time.

Do you have a steamer or even your wife's steam iron if it has the steam blast that some have.

Better do it now ... I mean now in the middle of night. I should've done this long time ago when I still had my 530i and I would have still be driving it today.
