Public storage ftw! My fiance worked there for a minute so I had to show her those pictures. Said you're not allowed to do that. Lol

This is nothing new. In fact, I've seen few guys having two units side by side and two cars up on the jacks and one outside being worked upon. In fact, I was told these guys have been around for more than a year. One has been using this place for the past four years.

We have "the tail of the Dragon" down here (NC and TENN border) riding 300 GERMAN horses this time of year in that area is Gorgeous and a great run... And the tail of the Dragon has 318 curves in 11 miles with no with no intersecting roads or driveways

Bought it for my son! 2002 E39, 530i. 122,xxx miles. Have deep maintenance records, yet to review. New tires, brakes, struts.
Signed up for this cool forum. Hello, all!
    Registered it. $331
    Detailed it; $160.
Purchased Two fat Bentley maintenance books, $120.
Drove it around in the beautiful fall weather of Central New Jersey back roads; priceless...

    Found following faults so far;
    1. Found sticker in rear door jam identifying NO air bag(s) present. Big concern. This is for high school kid.
    2. Front seats have the 'twisting problem'.
    - Viewed several videos of repair methods involving end cut and center cut of sheath. Planning on center circumcise and remove 1mm approach.
    3. Has occasional puff of (oil?) smoke from passenger vent.
    - Plan to replace with Viton gasket. (Daunting task for newbee wanting to do it right.)
    4. Has pixel problem on instrument panel. A 'C' priority.
    5. Fogging of front headlight lenses. A 'C-' priority.

Beginning my search for responsible area DIY'ers to assist us through 'on-boarding' and care and feeding of this impressive car.
    Big Day 1.

When you are ready, I can help you with your pixel problem. Feel free to PM me regarding it. I'll be moving to a new house next week so I'll be shutting down operations until early November, but after that I'll be ready to help you out if you want. Feel free to check my reliability with other forum members.

I'm closing on my new place today. So I might be moving next week also! How long did it take from contract to closing?

45 days is what we agreed to. It's been extremely smooth so far and all I have left is to wire the closing costs and sign all the paperwork on the 30th.

Made my 700ish mile journey to SC. 22mpg total in the M5

I40 blasting through those turns and tunnels.... Must do again. Definitely enjoyed the 11hr drive and car performed flawlessly

    Vanos Seals

As soon as I do my homework and find out what they are, I will be happy to do so. I'd like to keep this in excellent running condition for as long as my son can keep it on the road.

Do 'we' know any New Jersey e39 owners who would be willing to meet up some time and go over this machine?
    Thanks,
    Jim G

Some pics from my DE trip last weekend where I helped a friend do the vanos seals on his E46. Yours should be very similar if not identical.
Look up Beisan Systems, Raj has the seals and an excellent DIY.

auaq, what's the black plastic cover over the intake cam for? Us Ho8 guys don't need no stinking plastic covering up our cams.

Jim, if you forget to put the oil fill cap on, that plastic cover keeps the oil from flinging out the open hole.

@JimG2408 I made an E39 playlist of DIY videos including the valve cover gasket video here:

    https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...Cr7w62HX3fXn9R

Latest video for the E39, the alternator started dying and screeching. Same noises as on our X5 3.0i last week!
