The seal was like that when I got it. Right at the bottom too. One of the PO’s musta dragged their feet across it or used that area to knock their shoes clear? No clue but it was ridiculously bad.

It’s an art that I can’t seem to perfect just yet, But believe me, when I do get it just right, we’re all gonna go in on a group buy when the next multi trillion lottery tickets go on sale.... Lol, then we could all corner the E39 market, buy up every last one of them to keep them all alive, hell, money talks, we’ll get BMW to refurbish them all, and then we go on a mission after BMW gives us the name and number of the cup holder engineer, the idiots responsible for the window regulators, suspension failures, every F’ng nuisance that these cars go through, then get the right guys to redesign everything but the looks, the character, perfect the damn cars for craps sakes!!!

Don't forget all the engine oil leaks too.

After my prior repairs to my tailgate liner failed spectacularly... found one on eBay that looked mint and took a chance.

Finally got around to opening the box up with a warm afternoon to spend outside and to my surprise she was as described and undamaged from shipping.

Mounted up super solidly, and the tool kit even came with the sunroof Allen key that I had been missing!

Also conditioned the seals on the car and tailgate. Very happy with the result!

Installed an e60 shifter and a ZHP knob. That made a world of difference.

The bitch clip was the easiest part of the job.

Noticeably shorter. Less slop and play especially since the original shifter had 126k miles on it. Engagement is smooth like a stock shifter......which it is. No notchiness that you would expect with an aftermarket SSK.

I prefer the SSK feel more, but for the price, you can't beat this setup.

Right on can you give us a hint?
How’s Ruskie doing? What’s new with everyone?

Oh and what did I do to my e39 Today? I again gave e39’s a win by converting another N62 into shrapnel in my e60 this morning.
It was like full hail storm under the hood.

    Rodney came a knockin? Damn.

Finally had a minute to get my M5 smogged and registered. Still have to order new trunk license plate bolt receivers (mine are stripped), so still no plates on the outside.

A couple of mine are stripped too. The screws will go in but won't come out whenever I need to add my registration tag. I just pull outward on the license plate while backing out the screw and out it comes. Might give that a shot.

It’s not even that; the whole rubber pad spins inside the trunk lid.

Finally got rid of that terrible clunking in the front end with a set of new Meyle HD sway bar links. SO quiet now.

    4 BMWs.
Brought the 528i home from the body shop. I had them repaint and install a used bumper after a deer collision. I still need to figure out the left/right lower grille and replace the left side brake cooling duct and alt. cooling duct.

Dood, if you need all that stuff, let me know! I just took off the front bumper of my wrecked wagon to pull the left fender off the car. I have the two little grilles, the clips if you need them, the brake ducks, and the small duct that routes air to the alternator. No money involved, pay it forward. Let me know. The center grille is broke up at the bottom, had a chicken run out on the road one day out in the sticks..... Stupid chicken, by the time he busted up my lower grille, he wasn’t worthy to be fried chicken, I think the impact literally broke every bone in his stupid chicken ass.

    - - - Updated - - -

If you need to save money, I can see about epoxying the bottom of the grille to the spare, no big deal.

Did an inspection on the 540 before the last time attack this Saturday. New Motorsport Hardware wheel studs and nuts. Remember, even your stock hardware has a recommended service life.

Also added an overflow can for the power steering. Its common for the reservoir to overpressurize under hard driving, and this is my makeshift way of not having a mess of ATF in my bay.

Thats a good mod. I did similar but I run the tube just down to the bottom of the engine bay. Its such a light and occaisional mist it never creates a mess down there really , there's enough airflow to just waft it out into the slipstream I guess.
