540i has been very sluggish lately - tried running the car with MAF unplugged and it still sounded like it was missing (not a smooth idle), wondering if I should change out the CPS and or get new ignition coils? Recently replaced the spark plugs.

Installed shiny new glossy kidneys. After being misled by vendor, trying to cancel parts order which is difficult when they don't answer emails and wander off and stop responding mid-online chat. Won't make the mistake of ordering from them again. Looking for decent place to order KW V1s from.
You should get an old Windows 7 laptop and put INPA on it, it really does make life a whole lot easier. Then you can monitor all the vitals as well as see all the shadow codes that regular code readers can't catch. My favorite tool is the Roughness chart, it shows how each cylinder is running— very useful for tracking down a rough idle due to bad injectors/spark plugs/ignition coils. I've had ignition coils that weren't outright failing but weren't firing optimally and that caused a rough idle.

Bought a set of E38 Sport Comfort seats yaaaay!
Looks really good!
Haven’t posted much lately. Over the winter I reclearcoated my carbon fiber hood and installed new wheels. Got a set of 19”x9” style 367 wheels from a F10 5 series. Also ordered a carbon fiber trunk that should be here Wednesday. Now to find a good local detail shop for some paint correction/scratch removal.
I forgot I also built a new full 2.5” exhaust with a high flow cat, resonator and magnaflow muffler. Sounds good with the eBay headders I also replaced all the wiper cowl plastic parts with oem bmw parts. They were falling apart due to age. Maybe this will be the year for a supercharger?

My 2003 540i/6 just got the SES light today... This gave me the opportunity to finally try out INPA and read the codes. I've got 3:
98 - Tank ventilation valve output
140 - Output thermostat map cooling (error currently available)
93 - Tank ventilation functional check
Any advice on addressing would be helpful. Perhaps related... I overhauled the cooling system in July of last year. A couple months thereafter, the car started very slowly losing coolant (never seen a drop or puddle below the car). I top off the coolant about every month (maybe add about a cup). My theory is that the gasket is weeping a bit? Hard to say as I can't easily get a good view of below the water pump. I just ordered some dye to try and pinpoint the leak.
Does error 140 indicate that I should replace the thermostat anyway?
I'm not sure I'm cut out for e39 ownership .
Pulled my passenger seat to fix the twist and (in my case) the raising cables. Took about 3 hours from start to finish, including reading articles and watching youtube videos. Hardest part was I wasn't able to raise the seat, so I had to creatively find a solution to remove the seatbelt bolt (snap on tool for the win!).
Also, replaced the old-ass Dynavin with a factory radio/CD player. The Dynavin wouldn't recognize my Pixel or the GF's new iPhone, so it had to go. New GROM USB unit and HD radio receiver on order.

It's been a few days now that the car's been at a very good acquaintance's shop. They are the consummate body guys, and this was long overdue.
Rear OE m-tech bumper is getting resprayed; the custom finned diffuser will be gloss black; and the entire trunk lid is being resprayed along with the passenger side quarter panel.
Played musical tires w/ both.
Had what may be a tread blowout on Bjorn a couple days ago. No other explanation since the metal fibers seem to be facing out in the 1" gash. Drivers side no less.
Wait ... what?
Very worn Conti snows that had a serious impact on one side a year or two back.
The tires I really wanted now on that car for an upcoming roadtrip were on Gerta. Summers were available to swap but we're going north and may be driving in sub freezing temps and there is an outside chance of precip.
Put on the back support belt, charged up the impact batteries and went at it.
I'm a big proponent of summer/winter tire sets. But having one set of all seasons, which just came with the wheels in this case, all of the sudden makes a lot more sense.

Used it to pull my S550 up the driveway bc it shredded a serpentine belt as I pulled up to the house. All new pulleys and a new belt so I need to figure out what I did wrong.
Before that fiasco I also changed my fuel door hinge and roundels.
