Well, I finally did it. My silver surfer wagons battery got weak enough to not start the car. I normally drive the car at least every other week, but this time, thinking back, it’s been almost a month since I even started it up. Battery wasn’t dead, just wouldn’t start the car, hooked up the jumpbox, and fired it right up, no weird module action, everything just works good as new. So with that in mind, how come everybody else gets all kinds of weird crap when they get their car started, but the battery was weak, and the modules are freaking out???

I actually had that a few weeks ago my alternator wasn't properly charging so It would drain the battery a serious amount and I would jump it and have weird errors. But normally if it's only a tiny bit drained, it doesn't happen just not enough to affect the car just prevent charging. Depends on if ecu and modules get power.

Shoot.... I already knew that, but these BMW gods, they do have a messed up sense of humor, somehow, they still manage to get me back. I hit a bump on the road the other day, got that crashing feeling that the subframe bushings are starting to go on my green snot wagon. Those stupid things were just done at about 76,000. These Lemforder pukes really have some explaining to do, car is at 89,300+ miles, WTF??? Damn the BMW gods!!! This time, it’s gonna be Meyle HD’s, just like the ones on the silver surfer.

Justine, did you come out from the dark side and get another E39?

Replaced the front outer tie rods, and the sway bar bushings. They were overdue for replacement after 20+ years.
Full brake overhaul on my 2003 540. New hoses at the wheels and the two engine bay hoses (real knuckle busters to remove), all new caliper seals and hardware, new akebono pads and coated rotors, and powder coated calipers I did using a homemade blasting cabinet and a toaster oven. The color ended up a bit more "loud" than I'd hoped but I'm happy with it. If I could do it again I'd probably go a bit darker and a bit more blue. The calipers were pretty nasty inside, I had to replace one of the pistons due to some pitting but somehow it still sealed before I pulled it apart.

Have we ever found a decent enough alternative to the rear window regulators for our cars? I know everyone says only BMW ones are the best, and I would go and buy a brand new one from FCP. But even with their lifetime warranty, I just can't justify dropping the $500 they go for.
Sure I'll pay that money for something more important like a new water pump. But for a regulator that rarely gets used and was a s*** design to begin with? F-that!
Think I'll check the local junkyards for now to see if I can find something decent.

No decent regulators at the junkyard. But I did score some technical graphite trim from an old 528i. Door, and dash pieces don't seem too bad other than some light scuffs that should easily buff out. But the center console piece is up in the air. Already has one knick on it and maybe a couple more. Plus the ashtray is broken and I need to get it removed without causing any more damage. I may or may not install it on my car, don't know for sure til it's all cleaned up.

Also saw this in the same car. Was almost tempted to buy it and clean it for my car for s***s and giggles lol.

Received and replaced the expansion tank -oem BMW stamped.
This is the fourth tank on this car. The previous tank (Behr made-in-China) lasted a couple years, for about 15 K miles, then started leaking.

Just ordered both left and right URO Premium rear regulators from Rockauto. Gotta use that discount before it expires lol.
As for the front ones, I may just stick with genuine BMW since they get used more than the rear windows. Unless URO front premiums are supposed to be great too?

The regulators on my old 540i worked flawless and never had to touch them. Meanwhile in the one year with the M5, I've had to replace all of them once already.
Sent from Uranus with Love.
I've heard from a few guys that the regulators fail from lack of use more than anything else, so I try to run mine up and down a few times a week. So far, besides the 2 that were messed up when I got the car, I haven't had any others fail on me.

I’m still in the four original regulators. I had to fix the two rear ones where the cable crimp thing breaks.

That could actually be possible since Ryan's car spent most of it's life in the cooler Ohio climate. As opposed to my M5 spending 90% of it's life in the southern Florida sun were it's warm year round. Definitely the reason for the hard leather on the dash.

Wow. Superior and Uro in the same sentence. Times have changed!!! Not making a dig Jason, just glad to see they are making something worth using and not just install and dump the car type parts.
