My daily driver broke down so I dusted off the E39 and took it to work.. got a bunch of surprised reactions. I guess my daily driver is really setting off the wrong impression haha. I love the E39!

My daily is a motorcycle, or my e39 540.... Can't say I haven't been casually perusing for a winter beater though...

Speaking of the thread, I shined my tires today?

I daily either my 540it or my Corvette, life's too short to daily a boring car.

Figured out why so many BMW's appear to be "broken" down on the side of the road.... The wife got rear ended in her X5 this morning and apparently it triggered something on the battery terminal to disable the vehicle from restarting. Super annoying because we could have driven the car to a safe spot instead of leaving her stranded in the left lane. She's okay, but it's gonna be a road to recovery for both her and the car.

Oh, and BTW... the dealership wants to charge $1300 to replace the battery terminal component. I'm thinking we are looking at a totaled X5

Part 2 finished. Made some 1.5X1X1/8th brackets. used some of the original cartridge mounting holes on one side, than 1/4" self-tapping screws on the CF side. On the rear most edge, use self tapping screws all around on part of the roof that was dual paned with a gap in between. All worked out.

Oh, also fixed the twisty issue on my passenger M5 seat.

Ruski that's the assploding battery terminal. We all got that. Little pyro device blows the connection out at the terminal. Seldom triggers but when it does it does. You can hack the thing off and replace w a basic terminal AFAIK but then you'll get a permanent airbag light.

And honestly I'd rather take the once-in-a-100-accidents slight inconvenience for the insurance of the once-in-1000-accidents against the car catching fire if the tank leaks ... It's a pretty good thing to keep. And they aren't known for false triggering so you're an outlier there. Personally I'd grab a junkyard battery cable , test it for continuity (aka not preblown) and swap it in.

You can code the SRS module (the airbag module) to remove the Battery Safety Terminal, so you don’t have to have a continuous airbag light. I used PASoft to do it on my black 530iA after the replacement battery cable had a faulty BST.

Any significant difference in ride quality? Some BMW center caps would look nice in there.

Finished my oil pan gasket after it took fcp 3 full business days to get me the parts I paid for overnight shipping (they refunded shipping costs) only to find out that it’s likely my RMS that’s bleeding. Definitely going to be shipping this job out. Any recs for north bay indies?

Installed rear door cards, lower caramel dash parts and center console parts along with 15mm spacers on the front. I am down to less than a half dozen parts and the rebuild of the 2000 528 with full E39 M5 Caramel interior swap will be complete.

The cheap eBay FSU I bought to replace the melted Meyle FSU failed last night, However no where near as spectacular as the week old Meyle. This one lasted 2 weeks and just stopped working. The Meyle let the smoke out.

Might pull the dash & replace the blower fan, I bought one a few months back as a R&R item. Now to warranty the eBay FSU.

    Cheers

Fresh oil change with Ravenol and oil for the Supercharger. Cleaned up and went to a local car show. Now about to strip the Aero and extra seats for the strip tomorrow.

I'd be tempted to triple check the electrics everywhere related on both sides after a second failure. So soon, even for an eBay cheapie...

All is well, looked at the diagrams and traced circuits previously.

I feel like after 20years the blower fan has just gotten power hungry and is drawing more current so at lower speeds the FSU has to dissipate more heat than usual, just how starter motors get when they slow down.

But yeah, I have a new blower motor sitting there. Might as well fit it and go from there.

    Cheers
