Ordered blank key fob, valve cover gasket set, transmission filter and pan gasket.

My only master key fob is no longer remote open/close door anymore, even after I replaced battery, now the key can lock the door, but I have to jiggle to unlock the door. I think the green plastic hole with slots in cross pattern on the door latch might have one slot broken if you know what I am talking about, need to take off the latch to take a look.

We started tearing it down to replace the guides.

How are you able to get essentially 50% off ?

Looking for an E39 belly pan , passenger front inner fender liner …

Placed new intake boot on the front of the engine. Old one had a broken nipple to the solid hose which routes to the middle of the engine.
100 bucks for the part, meh

I usually try to repair those, replacing the whole boot for that one fitting just seems like a waste of money to me. Epoxy + a small WD-40 straw usually does the trick.

Well, the cost of the one for the deck has gone up quite a bit at ECS since I purchased mine in February from them (I was wrong in stating that I bought it sometime last year; it was February of this year). Hence the comment on prices fluctuating:

And here's the receipt for the seatback one:

Acquired my first BMW the other day (a higher mileage 1998 540i6) and began troubleshooting some relatively minor issues. Scanner arrived today to diagnose my newly inherited trifecta problem and 3x wheel speed sensors are now on their way. I used to work as a tech at a bmw shop, but we saw way more e46 and newer than the older 3 and 5 series. Forgot how fun these things are to drive. Should be a great summer beater.

I got my 2 eBay key fobs cut at Ace Hardware, the first one was kind of ruined, one side was cut too deep so the side ridge is gone, but somehow it I can still use it to open the door, the second one is better, both can open/close the door, but neither will turn the ignition cylinder, is that normal without programming? I ordered AK90 and will program the keys myself.

Nope. Programming has nothing to do with turning the lock.

Probably a crap copy job sadly. The tolerance of the door cylinder is probably sloppier than the ignition so the door is 'close enough' but the iggy is not.

A proper key gets cut 'digitally' basically: a machine 'reads' the old key, determines what the orig pattern was, then cuts the new one... therefore compensates for wear... making the new key truly "like new" and immediately better than the original. Trace-job key machines almost always make a copy that is worse than the worn original...

Okay, the Ace Hardward I went do not have laser or digital cutting matching, just a mechanical one so I guess the keys are useless and I have to order new keys. They didn't charge me for the key cutting though.

By the way, I scanned EWS and all 10 key are being used, the only key I have is key #5 (remote function stopped working after I replaced battery, cannot initialized it), with AK90 software, can I delete those other keys from EWS memory?

Picked up the car from Kings Auto Body shop after they painted amd installed my new front bumper, then brought the car over to MFR Engineering where we restored my carbon fiber hood, fender and wing in preparation for Bimmerfest.

I feel like a noob compared to what you're all doing. I just replaced the driver side camshaft position sensor in my car after my service engine soon light came on. Cleared the code and drove it about 25 miles and it hasn't come back on! Idle seems to be far smoother than before. Luckily, I never ran into the other issues that people complained about when their CPS went bad. Thanks to all the posts here I felt comfortable working on it myself. It was a really easy fix but being new to BMW and the E39 as well, I wanted to be absolutely sure I could fix it.

Ordered parts from PelicanParts and they were great! Also replaced the air filter.

Replaced the motor mounts, trans mounts, manual transmission fluid, and changed the oil. Took about 3 hours to do all of that, having a lift is real nice!

Washed and cleaned it for the BMW Albuquerque Spring Fiesta Concours tomorrow. Probably wasted my time doing it other than it needed a good cleaning. I'm the head MF judge so my car won't be judged to avoid any conflicts that could arise.

Cleaned more gross sticky pop residue out of my project car (the "other" 540i). That car is just so gross inside...
I guess since there have been several owners before me, each one cared a little less about upkeep on the car.
    Still, it's just gross inside...

Replaced transmission filter, pan gasket and fluid, the car is at 145k miles, the fluid is black of course, the bottom of the tray has a lot of residue, quite dirty. The job isn't difficult to do, the most challenging that I have are:
    1. Get the gasket to stay on the fluid tray lip, the gasket came with the kit is twisted, I have to smear a thing layer of gray RTV gasket maker on the tray lip to get gasket to stick.
    2. It is very difficult to align fill plug to fill hole, the plug is not self centered to the fill hole so when fluid starts dripping out, in a rush I was fighting for few minutes and finally got the fill plug to screw in.

Yes, I did run through all the gears with brake pressed, and refill afterwards. I bought a manual fluid transfer pump but end up didn't use it, I just used the hose, one end attached to a funnel, the other end in to the fill hole, had my wife pouring fluid to the funnel and I was under the car watching the fluid dripping and put fill plug back, the gravity did the job, it is easier this way.

Took the car for a short test drive, don't feel much difference, it is getting dark so I didn't do second drain and fill, I plan to do second drain and fill in few days, that should be fine right?

Bimmerfest is next weekend and im idiot enough to rebuild the vanos right before

To make matter worse, the UUC flywheel doesn't have a hole for the flywheel locking pin so I had to eyeball TDC. Luckily I have the radiator and all that trash out so i can get a head-on view of the crank pulley and timing cover TDC mark, while also using a long 1/4"dr extension in cyl 1 spark plug tube to see where TDC is.

Not sure if this is related to my ignition switch crapping out at conveniently the same time.

Nah, The holes will never be perfect. I'd rather have imperfect impact strips (replaceable) than bumper (not so replaceable)
