Nope, no setup required. Very possible the clutch is DOA. I've had good experiences with Mahle-Behr.

Anyone have any brilliant ideas for pilot bearing removal? I've tried a small slide hammer (2lb) and smashing in wet shop towels, but no dice. The bearing is IN there tight.
Going to rent a 5lb slide hammer tomorrow.

Well it is done now, quite obvious line, but I think it is because of the spray being a bit different color than the car itself.

Took my 540 to the .25 cent car wash this morning then onto the pretty much deserted highway for a high speed run to air dry it. Then to the Labor Day car show in ABQ, 400+ car, not one BMW. Everything else was there.
The featured car this year was pre 1989 English cars.
I was at the VIR this whole weekend for Hyperfest.

Changing out the driver door lock actuator of my e39. The plastic sleeve of the Bowden cable crumbled when I took the lock mechanism out of the door. I placed an order for a new cable. It will be out of commission for a few days. I am taking the e38 in for a new headliner tomorrow. Looks like me and the truck for a few days. Always good to have a few spare vehicles just in case.

finally, finally, after owning the car for like 3 years, i FINALLY replaced the rear hatch and glass gas struts
but man it was a pain. the struts weren't too bad but those little plastic coverings that keep the wires in check, such a pain to remove and put back together
by the way, a cheat code for that job is to unbolt the actual ball joints the struts sit on, you can get to them under the rear headliner, not difficult or time consuming to reach, although be careful not to crack your D pillar plastic
i legit forgot that the hatch will essentially self-open if you pop it with the keyfob, since the hatch struts have those huge springs on them

Failing door lock actuators are a common issue with these cars. The door lock will be slow to move when locking or unlocking, sometimes not moving at all. Don't think lubrication will fix it, it doesn't.
I have changed out 8 door lock actuators now on my 5 and 7 series and it fixed the issue in every case. Oh, and I replaced 6 out of 8 window regulators.....

mirror covers i'm not worried about, since the square mirrors i have are getting replaced with m5 reps soon anyway, probably right after this trip
another complication is that i have an M bumper :/
if i had known it'd take this long i would have ordered them a month ago

Clear bra > anything else. It’s not hideous and old fashioned, nor will it scratch the ever loving hell out of the clear coat... unlike a certain vinyl product.

i called a local place that does clear bra installs, supposedly very good, $995, which is...quite a lot...
i'm beginning to think it might not be worth doing protection since i'm respraying the bumper anyway (from sun damage) and the hood has a decent dent in it so it'll need dent repair and probably a respray
