Drove down to Jefferson City for a meeting at the Capitol. It was, as always a great ride, smooth, with effortless power to pass on the two-lanes.
Um, sometimes a little too effortless. I got tired of idling behind a line stuck behind a pickup towing a boat. I may have been up to 100 as I passed the truck---and noticed "State Trooper" on the door. "Oops" is not quite capturing the sentiment.
But no flashing lights, no roadblocks, so all is good!

You know the drill, evox-r 2.0 retrofit and testing some 3d printed adjusters to see how they take the heat.
Believe it or not this isn't for my car, it's for my dad's 530i, sort of an early father's day present.
His lenses were cloudy, adjusters broken, and projectors worn out. Light output was abysmal.

Upper radiator hose on the 528i blew up yesterday. Got it replaced, limped it home, properly bled the air, back up and running. $25 bucks all in all.
Just experienced a problem, haven't had time to get into it other than running the codes but figured someone here has seen it and can lead me in the right direction:
I started the car and it ran fine, shut it down 20-25s later after moving it in the garage. I went to start it again because I still needed to reposition the car a bit and the car started surging from 1100-1400rpm and the throttle pedal had no effect. It just surged. I let it sit all day hoping it would clear whatever ailed it but it did the same thing. So I ran the codes and got these codes with the C310+ (not sure if this is a good one or if I need something else, it came with the car and so far it's done what's needed done) .
E3 Function Throttle Actuator Jammed
E4 Activation Throttle Actuator
73 Signal Hot-film Airmass FLO w/sensor
E5 Spring Check Throttle Actuator..
Do I need to clean/check/replace the air mass sensor or is it something else. I was in a hurry but I saw something in the C310+ asking if I wanted to reset an activation? Maybe my memory is wrong on that. I'll get into it more in the morning. Any help would be appreciated.
A great ending is all you'll see..

Sounds like the TB died or possibly a issue with the connector, done any work in there recently? Was the EML light on?

Pretty sure I have it figured out. I noticed that the TB connector was a bit far out.. so I pushed and it would spring back into the connector but not catch. I used a screwdriver as a bar to really push it back in.. it clicks.. runs fine. I was able to clear the codes and run it without throwing a code. I noticed some clown has wrapped e-tape around the connector. Disconnected the connector like it was, throws codes. Snap it in with a lot of force, runs fine. I ordered a new connector and pigtail wires which I'll cut back and solder in when they arrive. Thanks for the help.
A great ending is all you'll see..

LOL, IPA’s I hope.
When I lived in MA I use to go there, even raced there a few times.
There’s a drag strip about 30 miles south of me here in NM that I plan on taking the hotrod to.
Hey Liketheredbaron, welcome to the forum.
Why did you delete your post? It was good. I read it before you deleted it.
What he said. Connector

Agreed. And in this case the evidence suggests some hack "fixed" the problem in what most of us would call a non-permanent way.. and this is a classic case of why you fix things right the first time. Of course whoever did it sold the car so I suppose that was long enough for him..
After I replace the connector and wires I'll probably put a heat resistant tie wrap around both sides of the connector just in case. Apparently either the material of one or both sides of the connector isn't compatible long term with the heat that builds up in that area, right under the beauty cover. I'd hate to have it go bad again why driving on the interstate..
A great ending is all you'll see..

To be fair these connector problems are showing up 15 + years after assembly so the OEM design was not terrible.

I suppose, but they're not good either. I don't think it's the design exactly, more its the tech they're using for their polymer components. BMW is known to have issues with everything made of that stuff from cooling system expansion tanks and fan blades to connectors to even CIA pipes.. I don't know much about more current BMW's, but I sure hope they've fixed their issues.
A great ending is all you'll see..

Got an oil change in.
I was surprised how much more quiet my car became.
Changed from 5w30 to 5w40 for the hot summer.
Looking at Project Farm's tests on oil, I am considering moving away from Liquimoly to another company. Liquimoly doesn't seem to be rated very highly from their tests.

Looking for an E39 belly pan , passenger front inner fender liner …
Changed out the front fender inner liners for new OEM ones at $460. Ouch. They actually fit like they should.
I was refunded for the cheap aftermarket ones from carparts. They didn't even want them back.
Car goes in Monday to get detailed. Looking forward to getting it done. He did a great job a few years ago.
