Prepping for my oil cooler install. Just need two more fittings, and to wait for my housing to come back from Powder coat.

I gave my IG followers the power to make the choice on color. Gold won. So shes being anodized this week.

And than waiting on ECS to send me another Turners Motorsports oil temp sender housing, since turners sent one out with a manufacturing defect.

Always want one of those hot climate oil filter canisters, just couldn't justify the cost......Setho you got the shaft on the fittings and braided hose. Hope you didn't have to bend over too far. Nice Strab cooler.
Are you using a temp controlled valve for the cooler?

The sweet thing about the Gulf oil gilter housing is that it has a built in 100°C thermostat. No need to add one inline like with other setups, and the primary reason for doing it this way.

The other reason, and you might want to jump on it, is that ECS Tuning has/had them for $160 out the door, when I ordered mine at the beginning of the month.

XRP fittings are very pricey lol. Still need the M26 x 1.5 to -AN10 adapters still.

Nice stuff Setho. Do you have an oil temp gauge? Have your oil temps been high at the track?

I haven't had one in, and its a bit hard to check the cluster lol. But I'm installing one. Just need to figure out how I'm gonna mount everything within view.

Already have my boost gauge there. Will also be adding a oil pressure, and AFR gauge soon too. Needs to be extremely visible while on the track, so the cup holder area is not ideal when in a harness and helmet.

    Hey Setho,

I love your Gulf Oil Filter Houseing set up.

ECS Tuning has some nice bezel options for your gauges. Perhaps you may find something feasible.

Chris has a nice setup, as Snotty mentioned the fog lamp switch is a nice option.

Thanks Manny. As mentioned, I've already filled the fog switch with a boost gauge. That mirror one isn't very practical, but looks super awesome and stealthy!

Need some advice.. replaced my front end control arms and thrust arms to resolve a front end vibration and sloppy float slide when changing lanes at freeway speeds. Neither really resolved anything even with perfect alignment, new tires and different wheels. Today I replaced the outter tie rods and its much better but its still sloppy changing lanes, meaning I have to have a death grip on the wheel to keep the car in control. Obviously I need an alignment now that my toe is off and the steering wont auto center. Is there anything else I should change before I get an alignment to get this thing to drive straight and not slide all over the place?

Maybe center track rod and idler/pitman arm?

Have rear ball joints/integral links been done yet? Has the rear been aligned?

No on the ball joints, yes on the alignment. I went to go get an alignment after I did the thrust arms and the shop told me the alignment was perfect, even though I was getting sloppy loose steering and vibration in the front. The outter tie rods were COMPLETELY shot when I took them out today. I'm hoping its just needing an alignment now.

You most likely just need an alignment now. With the 540i you more or less have to replace everything at once, because once you replace one thing, the car finds the next weakest link. I did my control arms, thrust arms, sway bar bushings, sway bar end links, shocks, springs, and shock mounts. Now all I have left to replace is the center link, idler arm, and tie rod ends before getting another alignment. Should be pretty solid after that.

Also, what tires are you running? I find that can have a big effect on how the car handles and follows the road.

I have only replaced parts with wear/play on my car. Still on original center link, tie rods, and some other pieces. Car drives great. A lot of the new stuff is crap imo, so I'm only fixing what's broke.

When it gets warm out, the back end of the car feels a little sloppy.
Everything in the rear of the car has been replaced, except the rear subframe bushings and differential bushings.
I am wondering if the rear ball joints are about done since the car has about 167k miles, and the rear ball joints were replaced around 90k miles...

Also, I did another top-end piston soak, by removing the plugs, spraying some Sea Foam and pouring in 1/2 an ounce of the A/C Delco fuel injector cleaner, and letting it set for a couple of hours.
Then suck out the remaining gunk with a shop vac and nylon hose, then let the car run for 10 minutes.
I am getting tired of doing this at every oil change.
The oil consumption just keeps increasing and increasing...

Do you run some sort of engine flush product just before the oil change? Something like Liqui Moly Pro-Line Engine Flush? That might help. It's the rings, man. Sorry.

Has anyone tried the Wynns carbon buster kits on the e39? The ford dealership recommended this for my f150 with the ecoboost engine. Seems like this would help oil consumption issues in the i6 e39s

Thats's why I sold the 530 and got a 540... too much oil consumption, a qt every 700 or less miles. The extra money I spend in gas I make back by not buying oil.
