You can definitely polish it. Reach out to Dking078 on here; he has plenty of experience with trim refurb.

    Lol. Needs more volume!
Stock exhaust for now but I will have the same setup as my last 540 which was a muffler delete and high flow resonator.

Pulled my clutch fan. It was definitely the source of a new “whine/whistle” that was RPM dependent and started around 2k when cold. Had been going away once warm but is nice and quiet from cold now. Aux fan confirmed working, hopefully GG can code it to trigger lower since I have an 88C Tstat. At 27F ambient today she didn’t even wanna warm up to trigger the aux fan... barely tickled 91C after warming up.

I just drove from Southern New Jersey back to Washington DC, 200 miles. That craphole we all call NJ actually had their act together wiping this storm off of the roads. I 95 was fine, I should have stayed on it, but out of habit, I took the BW Parkway after Baltimore and man, that was a mistake.... Maryland the crummy gun hating state that it is, neglected to take care of this main artery of a highway, and traffic came to a 30mph crawl for most of the time I was on it. Counted at least 15 idiots spun off the road, 2 of which, I’m sure the occupants got hurt. DC was equally just as bad, and as soon as I got out of the 3rd street tunnel, basically back in VA, the roads cleared up and the BMW gods screamed Alleluia!!! Glad to be home, I put 500 miles on the Snot Wagon without a hiccup at all. Wish people would learn how to drive, I would have been home sooner. It took me 4.5 hours with this crap weather, really not that bad, considering.

Out on 95, I had an E class Merc get on my tail, I was doing 80 at the time. I sped up to a hundred and he stayed behind me, zipping through traffic. So I really opened it up, the road had cleared up and I got it up to 135 smoothly sailing through some traffic, and he started to struggle, got left behind, I just kept it chugging up to 140, probably not much left in the 2.8, slowed back down to 90, and about 5 mins later the Merc comes flying past, instant on, I matched his speed but the idiot didn’t know how to safely zip through traffic, doing stupid abrupt lane changes, so I passed his slow ass, got back up to speed, left him behind and just kept it pegged at 140 on my GPS until the Valentine 1 went off, slowed down, came around a bend and sailed past a couple of MD State boys sitting in the median. A couple mins later the stupid Mercedes caught up to me, and then one of the State Troopers caught up to the Merc and pulled him over, and that was that. After that was when the weather got bad again, snow coming back down.

Installed new front struts alone with the wheel bearings, control arms, and rebuilt brakes. Amazing what disenigtated bump stops will do to the top hats. Original on right and new Lemforder on left.

Yeah, it's not pretty. Also, try having no bump stops at all, like whoever did struts on my 530i5 last. Mushroomed the strut tower. I installed an eBay strut tower brace mostly to reinforce them.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I saw a few eBay sellers have some of the cables with pins 7 and 8 already soldered. Is it possible to get it working on Windows 8? I keep reading it only works on XP and I've long since replaced XP on desktop and laptop.

Yes, it works fine on Windows 10 for me. Installation of the drivers is clunky; PM me if you need help.

Oh good. Did you have to use compatibility mode or did it know what it was going?

Thanks, I'll order it soon and PM if I have any trouble. It seems to look a lot safer to use than NCS since it just uses check boxes for everything.

    Nope, just ran it.

It's way easier to use, but it's still possible to majorly fvrk things up. Exercise caution.

I figured it was still easy to screw things royally. I don't plan on screwing with anything major, I was just going to edit some LKM functions like removing bulb check from a few lights and also making the lights flash when unlocking and also adding the unlock beeps. Funny thing about my country is that no cars make lock/unlock sounds, I don't know why but it was a regulation thing for a long time. No cars before sometime in the late 2000s made a sound when being unlocked.

In that way I wonder if I even have the part that would make the unlock sound installed on the car at all if it was never meant for use in this country. Here's hoping it's there and is the wolf whistle!

Damn, can't wait to change out my mounts and struts. I went sachs struts, lemforder mounts and genuine spring pads (Made in India, lol). Add wheel bearings to the list too (FAG).

I polished wheels, used Turtlewax black tyre treatment kit thing and installed new centre caps.

Fashioned some ramps from treated pine to help with whenever I need to tighten a bolt that needs to be preloaded. I got one more set of blocks to get it another 45mm higher. Tedious as hell to get it up there (safety being paramount), so won't be employing this method of lifting often.

What's wrong with Rhino Ramps (or similar)? I'm able to drive my M5 up and down them with front and rear wheels.

I have Rhinos. My only complaint is they tend to slide on my garage floor so it takes several tries to get my car up. Doesn’t happen with my Quattro but the rear wheel cars are tougher.

Huge thanks to GG for coming down today and helping me re-time the car. Between the superior GAS timing tools and two people being super careful (and able to help counter load the cam when tightening the left hand threaded bolts on the cams)... seem to be good to go! Did a short test drive before the real snow starts, have maybe half a dozen starts on her now and no codes. Feels noticeably more responsive and smoother from off-idle through 2500 rpm or so, and she sounds happier at idle.

New covers are all powder coated very well, despite some less than perfect surfaces beneath. Spent an hour or more cleaning my old (not very old, and worth saving) valve cover and upper timing cover gaskets. Thanks to the prior valve covers’ shitty powder coat job, I needed all new grommets. Fortunately GG brought his spare gasket set so I owe him 16 grommets and figure 16 beers to go with em.

Unfortunately didn’t have the right cable to fix a few issues (wrong diff ratio coded so my cruise cuts out, wanna code the fan differently, etc)... but another excuse to hang with Mr. GearGrinder is never a bad thing.

All buttoned up and cleaned a bit under the hood:

I changed the cabin filters, which were absolutely caked in leaves and dirt with the drain holes being completely clogged too. I then gave it a much needed detail since I actually only bought it about a week or two ago and hadn't got around to it yet. It looks factory fresh now. I've also started upgrading some of the lights to LED like the glovebox and the trunk lights which just get too hot and are fairly dim. The glovebox with a cool white LED looks really good!

Next up is doing a basic service and starting to get into fixing the OBC issues.

Just out of curiosity, how do you know your "cats" were blocked?

For a while i have been having problems with power and fuel consumption, car felt as if its shocked, as the car is automatic it affected the changing of gears it wil stall on gear unless i let go off the pedal , it will start cutting power at 5000rpm so i did a lot of diagnosic an it will keep on showing bank 1 and 2 problem so i ended up doing my on search. I opened the first os and drove it with that noise but the power was still not there then closed that sensor and opened the second one and Boom the power is there. So i decided to open the cats and check for real and actually there were blocked so i removed them and closed it up car is a wake. I will leave them like that until i can get money to get knew ones.

Fair enough. In my experience, when I've dealt with cars that have plugged "cat's", they make a "hissing" noise from the exhaust when warm but sound normal when the engine is first started.

A crowbar in the right place can work wonders in that situation. Lol...
