Mechanically very simple. Coding is easy with INPA. Wiring is the biggest unknown, but if you're careful and read the WDS carefully, make a list of the connections, you should be just fine.

I'd been having all-over-the-road-itis and bad tramlining for a couple weeks so I jacked up the front end and did the wheel-wiggle test. Both front wheels showed movement along the steering axis (3 and 9) but not at 12 and 6. Initially, I hypothesized that a wheel bearing could be the cause, as I have a slight rubbing sound when accelerating and turning right when the car is cold, but both front wheels only showed movement in this one direction. Would that rule out the wheel bearing? It felt solid every other way. I've also noticed a clunking in the steering, which I think is the cause. Unfortunately, I think that it is more serious than the tie rods, as I had a friend make the noise by turning the wheel while I looked around for the source. It sounded like it was coming from the center, which, to me, points to either a bad center link or possible a worn out coupler (?). Time for more investigation...

Edit: Is there no center link for the rack and pinion system, only the box? If so, that eliminates a culprit. There is also a steering fluid leak, but the level looks good in the reservoir. Could it be a bad rack?

Nope you don't have center link. The rack is much simpler setup than the vintage recirc ball design. Suggest start a thread dedicated to your problem.

Told me Tuesday they might ship then today I get a email saying their computer was wrong and they don't have all the parts.

Really disappointed in how they handled it so far. Their customer service and communication has been really weak a best.
How much does the rebuild cost? It might just be better for me to switch to lowering springs and konis when the time comes.

Finished up changing the VCG, new vanos seals from beisan, new vanos oil line, ngk plugs and some of the vacuum lines that run around the back of the head/intake. Put in about 60 miles of spirited driving to help brake it in. Had some codes on first start for misfires, cleared them and been running smooth now. Now my aux fan is making an AWFUL noise when it spins up to speed even though I just replaced it three months ago. Maybe I spilled some oil or coolant on it. Never ends.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Koni FSDs (I used standard sport springs); they improve ride quality and handling (on par with Yellows at full soft) massively.

Yesterday I R&R'd the cooling system on the 530i5. Replaced the wasted GEBA water pump with a shiny new Stewart unit:

    IMG_1792.jpg

Also installed a new Genuine BMW thermostat.

Discovered the radiator had been replaced in 2015, along with the expansion tank.

    IMG_1793.jpg

Oh yeah; installed the German Auto Solutions rebuilt DISA from my black 530iA. Not a moment too soon; the pin was loose! And the lower pressure radiator cap.

Also installed the E46 330i upper intake boot (resonance chamber delete). I find it makes a nice throaty warble at WOT above 4k-ish RPMs.

Today I will be changing the engine oil and filter, then bleeding the cooling system and doing a general fluid level check and inspection.

I have Fortune Auto c/o too, looking to replace the rears with regular struts. Do the koni have adjustable spring heights? I see grooves and something like a circlip on the pics. On the ones in my e21 you can raise or lower the spring perch in three steps.

Yeah, you can move the lower spring perches if you want. Rear only. I just left it on the middle setting, which is how they came out of the box.

Drove the 530i5 with its new water pump, thermostat, and radiator hoses to school.

DSP amp is dead and dying. Radio only stays on for about 30 seconds, and the DSP menu on the nav screen is greyed out.

Ugh. If it's not one thing its another.

upper rad hose popped off the 540 while getting onto the freeway under heavy acceleration, waited an hour before the wife brought me some water and a hose clamp so I could limp it home. Filled it up with about a jug and a half of water and the temp stayed at 110/111 while cruising on the freeway for about 15-20 minutes. Right as I take my exit on the overpass it starts to overheat so I immediately pull over and turn off the engine... wait about 30 minutes and limped it home the rest of the 2 minute drive home.

    FANTASTIC day.

Sorry to hear about your woes. Those type of issues is why I changed to Evans and lower temp stat. Zero pressure and no worries. I'll drive anywhere on my old cooling system parts.
