if you want all oem you'll need this

thankfully that kit comes with the bumper reinforcement piece and the removable flap so all you need is the hole cut in your bumper, the modified bumper carrier, and the tow bar...
but all that together, new, with shipping is like $893, before cutting the support, phew
Looking for an e39 Touring black carpet set, including the rear cargo cubbies and side sections!
ALSO looking for 540i 6speed manual transmission sets (2001+ pedals with switches, driveshaft, gearbox), for the 6speed swap! Probably not for a while....

Got some new rubber and an alignment. Put some hankook ventus v12 evo2s -- loving them so far!
My Valeo alternator Stopped Alternatin', so it got Alter-nated with a Bosch Alternate.
Troubleshooting rough idle and cut off when cold on my 2000 M62tu with original Vanos and TCG's at 246k.
Bummer, P0340 so I replaced both sensors as preventative. She runs fine one day and then two days later, the code returns accompanied with fuel cutoff due to misfire. The bummer is that the rough cold idle became worse and now the tach "hunts" for idle and actually shut down a couple times. I found an old thread on the subject (search engine is your friend) and have swapped out the passenger side with the old, known working unit from the driver's side. Now I have to wait for the engine to cool off enough to give it another run...
This actually reminds me of the symptoms when the MAF/HFM5 was failing (no codes). When cold, the engine would be trippin' but wouldn't throw any codes. Once warmed up, PERFECT operation. On the day that I received the new MAF/HFM5, "DING"...code popped up. I replaced it then (+/-120k) and haven't had any issues until now. The difference this time is that the very specific code, P0340 showed up. I'll try to remember to report my results...IF you guys are interested.
BTW, I bought what I thought were OE CPS replacements from FCP but after removing the passenger side, I don't see ANY indication that it's an OE BMW part...

Violin, an acquaintance of mine is dealing with this right now. He replaced literally everything. Down to the entire engine, lol with a known good one. The compression on his original was a bit low with...ironically 246k mls. New engine harness and all, replaced both cam sensors. Still runs like crap.
Began tracing the bank 1 cam sensor wire back to the DME, found a loose pin. Literally moving the DME around while it was running would cure the misfire, when he'd put it back in the box, the misfire would return.

After being side-swiped back in October, I've been on the hunt for a replacement driver rear door in Biarritz Blue for months. Turns out it's a fairly hard to find color. Finally found one at a yard 12 miles from me. Had PDR done on the front door but the rear wasn't salvageable.
SO, my first time taking the door off of an E39 went well. Window on the replacement door doesn't work though -_-

I'm amazed you were able to find a good door in that color with paint still on it... in Arizona the junkyard cars usually have no paint left on them due to the sun roasting it all off.

I genuinely was too. I found a single one previously, but it wasn't even close to being a reasonable driving distance away, and not seeing it in person I wasn't comfortable purchasing it and having it shipped. I've been on car-part dot com every couple of days for the past few months looking for new postings. Found this one on Tuesday and immediately went to look at it. I liked what I saw so I purchased it right there and stuffed it into the back seat of my G30 loaner lol. I believe it's been repainted at some point in it's life, but if you're not looking for it you wouldn't notice it.
The only E39's with bad paint around here I typically see are early black ones or that weird purple color they did for a year or two. I can't imagine having to try and source painted parts out west on cars this old. I've never seen another biarritz blue in person, it appears that most of them, at least locally have been banished to e39 heaven.

Today's my last day at my job... I'm annoyed that I don't have my GoPro, I guess I'll just have to use my phone to film the fat burnout I'm gonna do on the way out of here at the end of the day.

Oh yeah, it smelled real good. It was the smell of freedom right there.
I've had that on my mind ever since I decided to quit, haha. I wish I had gotten a better video but ultimately it was just satisfying for me. I left on good terms with a proper two week notice, and I'm still friends with all my former coworkers, so it was nothing but good vibes yesterday. I'm excited for the next chapter in life, so we'll see what happens.
In the meantime, I'm going to be starting another chain guide job on Monday on a lovely Glacier Green over Stone Green 540i/6. And I'll be finishing the part-out of my 540it as well as starting to part-out the 540i/6 (after I give it a good final thrashing). Now I'll finally have the time to complete my 540it's interior swap along with the manual swap. Pretty stoked on all of it.

On the 528 -- Rebuilt my parking brakes, changed brake discs front/rear, installed akebono ceramics and flushed fluid. VCG has been leaking so will tackle that next.
Did some gratuitous doughnuts in the parking lot of the ski hill in the 528i Wagon.
Still monitoring and getting more mileage between adding oil after changing the CCV system.

Ok...so (much to the dismay of my wife and kids...)I have spent every single weekend for the last month and a half...or longer...working on Frau Christine !!!
Finally got 'front wheel bearing number two' installed yesterday. That was a tough job. One bolt was very agreeable...but it took me over an hour to persuade the other 3 hub bolts that they needed to come out too since their other old bolt friend was lying on the ground all by itself and missing it's other three old bolt friends. Mucho time with the impact gun, and a light heating of the other 3 corners of the hub base (where the bolt threads show through) and we had 4 old bolts on the ground all hanging out with each other again.
New hub goes on, four new bolts go in, everything gets re-assembled. I take it out...and ol' growly is now nice and quite going down the road. But as I drove down said road, I was like "why the heck is this thing not shifting..??" She got to 3rd and just hung there !! I looked down and found I'd hit the jackpot ! Got the ABS/DSC/BRAKE warning light trifectra !!
Guess I know what I'm doing this week. Working on this car...again.....
