2008 BMW 630i NBT iDrive Professional retrofit
The car, 2008 630i convertible
Upgrade from CCC to 2014 NBT iDrive from BMW F30 (3 series)
Much faster radio, has a dual core 1.3 GHZ cpu, a NVIDIA graphics card, 1 GB memory and a 200 GB hard drive.
Steering wheel buttons are still working, you also get the check control messages from the car.
Also allows you to stream audio from your phone, play movies from a USB stick or even from your phone. Also comes with voice command which is pretty sweet.
Nice interior color combo
Car has the CCC iDrive Professional, but no bluetooth.
And the work begins
Installing a brand new mic in there along with new wiring
New DAB radio antenna
Work in progress, routing cables and , included network plug for coding if required later, so no need to take the radio out.
Updating the navigation part with the latest maps, on the table, so I don't need to start and run the engine for 45mn
A bit more wiring and few more plugs getting tied up
New HD screen in place
NBT all connected up in the car now. Starting it for the first time. Sweet upgrade.
Now the most difficult part. Find a solution to fit the iDrive controller. The old one is way too wide. So I tried to find a solution that would look good and not out of place.
Removal of the central console
Old idrive controller frame out. Trying to figure out if I could reuse it or not. Turned out to be a flop...
Ok forget about reusing the old idrive frame, let start cutting the excess of trim in there, so at least I can fit the new controller and see what I can do with it.
USB socket in place
Ok I decided to make my own custom trim to actually cover the new controller.
Before hot gluing. So far so good.
Now how to make that new controller to hold in there...Ok I took a part the old one and kept the frame. I reattached the frame to the console, and actually the new controller fits just fine with double side tape.
There you go, all done
