    ^ okay, so that means that the acronym is being misused in this tread.

    from what i can see the IHKS is a module that controls heating and air conditioning, what the OP is talking about is the HVAC unit as well as the FAU.

    Tom D, the box says IHKS right on it. BMW has several different terms to refer to the "same thing" depending on how its equipped, IE IHKS, IHKR, IHKA etc.

    Visited my friends over at Imperial Collision this afternoon to check on progress on the e30's paint work. As always beautiful work. I'm loving the color and how Imolarot II flips dark/light depending on the ambient lighting, and seeing parts in color now... WOW. I love love love it.

    I'll have to swing back mid week to collect all the loose body parts with the wagon and take them home to get them out of the way.










    Chassis shell will be going into the booth this coming week.

    Thanks, I'm thrilled with the color. Although it was never a E30 offering I think it will suit the car well.

    All those panels are dry and they are as they were sprayed out from the gun. No denibbing or color sanding done yet.

    Each part is getting 2-3 coats of clear. They are using 2 full gallons of PPG Deltron Clear.

    When I got the car the previous owner had already removed the chassis wiring harness. He tried to label most of the connectors, and did an OK job of it but some of the label are definitely wrong, and others missing altogether. No worries, I know what every connector goes to by heart.

    As dumped out of the 30gal container it was in, all balled/knotted up:


    Took about 30 minutes to fish it around itself and untie it, lay it out like it would be in the car.



    The immediate underdash portion:



    Overall the harness is in great shape. I only found a few damaged wires that need attention, and a couple perished connectors that must be replaced.

    To do list:

    Replace brake lamp switch on pedal box, connector crumbled.
    Replace/rebuild reverse lamp harness, cut by driveshaft?
    Repair differential speed sensor connector, wires snapped off.
    Remove old wrap and rewrap engine bay portion of harness with new OE cloth tape.
    Replace ignition switch sub harness, was hacked into for an alarm?
    Delete all SRS system wiring.
    Delete/pair down Cluster > OBC harness for euro clock conversion.
    Remove speaker wires etc from radio harness, harness hacked up from typical prior radio install.

    thanks, I could see what you were doing but the terminology was confusing me, that's why I asked. I'm always amazed at the number of people that don't asked questions, they just look at you and nod their head in agreement even though they're completely dazed and confused.

    Most of the engine bay portion of the harness has been skinned and rewrapped with new tape. I have another 2ft or so to the fuse box that will have to wait as I ran out of tape.

    Last night I drove to the paint shop and picked up most of the loose parts, I then had a very chill drive home as not to jostle the parts into one another.





    The chassis shell should be in paint today or tomorrow. So excited :-)
