I just bought a new, to me, M20 engine. I want to put it on an engine stand but I don't have the necessary bolts. What size and thread pattern do I need?
m12

Just fyi: realoem lists bolt size and thread pitch for 'most' fasteners.

Does M12 refer to the size of the bolt, or the size of the thread? I assume an M!2 1.7 x 33mm is a M12 bolt with 1.7 thread and it's 33mm long? I'm very confused, and sorry to bring up an old thread but I'm finally getting to putting this engine on the engine stand.
That is correct, although I believe that'd be an m12x1.75x33 as thread pitch usually goes by the quarter mm (until you get down into machine screw sizes, like the standard pitch on an m4 is actually 0.70)
head/hex size is not part of this measurement, fyi. This nomenclature only dictates which hole the bolt fits and how far it goes into it, it does not care what size wrench you use to do it.
