If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
Agreed. I don't think he's looking; the only reason I said "for Pat" was because of his penchant for black-on-black cars.

We were just trying to see if we could go a whole month between posts. Made it 26 days after M540fella's post. Still, the patient is showing faint signs of life.

I'd love to go the Bavarian Auto S&S. I've been twice, always some cool cars there. I'll be out of state this year.

I was thinking about going, but as usual its going to rain. I don't feel like driving from NY in the rain just to stand in the rain, and then return home in the rain and mass traffic.

Audis are the worst cars in the world to work on. Replacing a simple exhaust manifold gasket turned into hours of hammering a turbo support bracket out of the way because I couldn't get to the bolt that secures it to the engine block. Because it was obscured by the oil return line. At the end I discovered that it was pointless doing all that, since the manifold has a hairline crack anyway. What a turd.

This is why i will NEVER own another Audi. ever.

At least it doesn't rattle anymore. Even an oil change is a pain on these cars if you don't happen to have the proper oil filter removal tool, there's so little space that hammering a screwdriver in is a huge chore. The only easy thing to do on this car so far has been taking off the door card to disconnect a blown speaker. Why not replace it, you might ask? Because this is a rolling turd, anything that gets fixed is because it has to be done, rather than should be done. On a side note, I'm not over cars, but having had a few nice cars and taking extensive care and dumping massive amounts of cash into them, I'm done with having something with a nice paint job that should be cherished, at least on a daily driven car. I regularly find new dings on the turd when I get back to the car park after work. But since it's just that, I don't mind. It burns oil and I'm just waiting for the exhaust hangers to rust off and for the exhaust to fall off, I've torn off the front bumper off on curbs so many times that the bumper skin has split from the inner support and it won't stay on straight. But it runs and gets me places. It'll do for the foreseeable future. Or until I torch it.

I hear you loud and clear on the nice shinny daily drivers. Im putting my winter beater E34 on the road this week and i cant wait. Im DD'ing my M3 right now and its a chore keepin it nice, an i still managed to get a ding that the prd guy is fixing tomorrow. I just sold my 750il because i cant keep up with that, a shinny M3 and a project m3 at the same time. Theres a certain liberation that comes with driving a beater thats hard to describe unless you drive one.

And now the clutch disintegrated completely. Ditched it somewhere where I probably got a fine.
EDIT:
Sadly, when I got back the car was still there and not impounded and burned. Had to wait an hour and a half for a tow truck. Got it home, mulled about for an hour and then decided to take a look. The car chucked a half shaft. And because there's no diff locks anywhere it just sent ALL the power to the now disconnected side of the diff. Apparently all the bolts backed off. I don't know how that happened, I did refurb both rear driveshafts and replaced the bolts on one side, but kept the old ones on the other. The factory ones are fine, but the new ones just backed off. Maybe I'll put some loctite on them. Seems to drive fine, though, there are a few noises present. Will worry about that when something else goes pop.

My Dad did a Timing Belt job on a Mark IV VW Jetta with the same 1.8T as that Audi. Worst engine ever. Everything broke on removal, all the valves bent becasue the TB broke under load, interference motor, and the TB change interval is recomended every 60k or so according to VW IIRC It was overall just a crappy car. Goodluck with yours.
