i think ive talked to you before ,i live in indy and also own a 95 m3, loving the thread, bought my car with imo some really horrible looking lorenzo wheels, there not ugly they just dont look right on an m3 , i,ll have to bring the car by your shop, my son had a gti, great shop btw , anyhow i was wondering what exhaust that is , i,m thinking mines about done , you ever run that up fall creek towards geist i think they just finished paving it, great road .
my exhaust consists of s52 manifolds, AA track pipe, and a Stromung cat-back. it's pretty quiet most of the time, but at full chat it makes a decent noise. the AA track pipe really muffled the noise, but it also removed a lot of the rasp (once up to temp). i plan to completely redo my exhuast from the head to the bumper next summer. so barring me buying a second e36, all my stuff will be for sale next summer.
i live in Cumberland and we have a lot of friends in Fishers and my wife works in Noblesville. so i'm fairly familiar with all the back roads in between. Mud Creek between Fall Creek and 96th is a good one, albeit short and only a few turns. old Fall Creek between 79th and regular (?) Fall Creek is ok too, but it's usually pocked up really badly with holes/patches.
i personally like 35 from Bloomington back to 31. it's a 40 or 45 and it's very twisty. the problem is that it's not usually deserted enough to really push hard.
i have a trip to the Tail of the Dragon planned for the middle of April. so that's my focus right now. actually installing all the parts i have accumulated between now and then....and new tires...and a fresh alignment....and more weight reduction...etc, etc, ad nauseum

picture is massive, but it's what i can do from job2. oldest IE still running and flickr are arch-enemies.
either way, i spend ~6 hours making the little plates that reinforce the shock towers and then the tube that connects them.
welds look like hell, but they're strong and i used flux-core because i'm out of gas.
plan to paint it all tonight and then get to mocking up my rollbar.
we'll see how i get on with regards to time. i may get distracted peeling up all the damned sound deadening...
***the bar is level. i just can't hold the phone level to show you guys. and i was pretty loopy from being tired and inhaling all the fumes. (yes, i had all the fans going to evacuate the poisons thru my open garage door. and the car was half out of the garage to minimize fume build-up anyway. but i'm sensitive....)

rollbar is finally ready to go in.
i've elected to bolt it in for now and will explore welding it in at a later date.
should get it in saturday after job2.

btw.. wtf is that metal thing hanging from the underside of your rear deck?Is that an amp?
- - - Updated - - -
Ohh.. and just noticed... did your car used to be red??
one of the POs installed a fancy stereo. there are component speakers throughout and a sub (currently not installed). so yes, that's an amp.
just the trunk was red. i believe the most recent PO sold off the cosmos trunk with LTW on it before i got the car and installed a red trunk. it's frustrating, but at least the trunk doesn't have enormous key marks in it.

Hah when I saw it at first it looked like a bunch of 8 gauge power wires coming out of it. Then I realized it was speaker wire >.<
How much you think your car weighs? Or how much weight do you think you have removed? Ive contemplated trying to loose some weight for a while. I havent had a working AC in forever. I keep saying Ill fix it, but never get around it. Thinking about pulling all of it... and figuring some other stuff to pull. I dont want to remove interior pieces though cause I have done a ton of work to the interior recently and its finally looking really nice..
right now, i'd say it's close to 2850-2900.
i plan to actually weigh it after i get the rollbar installed and the passenger seat back in.
there's a stone place near work with a scale and i have some friends that work at scrapyards. i just need to finish the jobs i've started and go weigh it.
things i've removed from the car at this point, if you're wondering
AC from the firewall forward. even the bracket on the engine
PS system. *i intend to install an electric PS pump in the trunk and plumb through the car to the rack sometime after i rebuild the rack*
hood liner
fender liners & factory brake ducts
aux fan
cluch fan *replaced with 16" 2100+ cfm spal
cruise control module
fog lights
front seats *replaced with awful Corbeau seats. sliders are on the list of things to go for 2016. need to fab up some side mounts
steering wheel replaced with 350mm Nardi Personal
back seat *back seat hole blockoff panel constructed from .063" aluminum
back seat side panels *will be constructed new from .040" aluminum when i get off my lazy ass
trunk uholstery *there's about 1/2 of the driver's side panel still there because the crossovers for the stereo are mounted to it. also going for 2016.
brakes! i ditched the M calipers up front for some Wilwood Superlites. also binned the factory rotors for e46M3 rotors...solid junk now. 2pc floating sitting in boxes in the garage for next year. that saves some weight for sure....and unsprung weight at that.
my HREs weigh about as much, if not a little less, than the DS1s. but the wheels that will be replacing them should be a little lighter. we'll see soon enough.
idk. there's more stuff. and too much of it has come from the back. i need to get some weight out of the front. although AC was 55lbs i think. need to delete a ton of crap from the engine bay and wire-tuck it to tidy the place and cut more weight. i'll be redoing the harnesses pretty seriously when that time comes. so i'll be literally cutting weight out. plus the washer res relocation will shift a few lbs from the front to the back. i want to buy some CF fenders, but i'd have to cut them all to hell to fit the overfenders. maybe if i find a roughed up set, i'll scoop them up and make them work. need a CF hood too.
my goal is to be at/under 2700lbs wet (without totally ruining the F/R weight balance) with 300-350rwhp by the end of next summer. but i have a lot of work to do to get there. i'm not looking forward to removing all the awful sound deadening. also not looking forward to removing the sunroof. having no AC, it helps to clear the windows in the rain. but it's 30+ lbs at the top of the car. so it's gotta go. plus i'd like to keep my suede headliner and pillar covers.
stay tuned. i'll do my best to document the BS i do to this hooptie.

I love the no f**ks given attitude about this car LOL..
I wanna shave some weight, but the vast majority of the stuff you got rid of is not stuff I want to sacrifice. I will probably be removing the AC stuff, and will be on the lookout for a CF hood/trunk, and some new front seats, and an electric fan. That will probably save me a bit more than 100 lbs. But that will probably be the extent of it. I love my sun roof... And I love the e36 interior when its well sorted, which mine finally is after 3 years >.<'
My single 3" exhaust+headers, arc-8 wheels, and lack of a spare tire has probably saved me close to 100lbs. Another 100-120 may get me close to 3000. Ill have to live with that.
my car was so haggard and unloved when i got it, it's been very easy to just try stuff out. it also helps that my last build was the exact opposite. fancy parts, nice interior, nice exterior, huge engine build, basically lost my damned mind and went full retard.
when i got this car, i decided right from jumpstreet that it was a driver and didn't have to be super minty. if i wanted a minty M3, i should have gotten a different car from go. one of these days, i'll build a clean e36. maybe not an M by VIN, but it'll probably get the s52 from this car and some other choice bits as this thing totters on, and falls over, the edge of insanity. i have visions of grandeur that include low discplacement, high revs, and turbos glowing yellow...
bear in mind i daily this car and it's my only car. i wanted to go back to building cars when it was fun. no absurd budgets. no pressure to do it one way or the other. just try stuff out and if it works, it sticks. if it doesn't, oh well. change it and move on. i also wanted to challenge myself to build it while still daily-ing it. this adds tremendous difficulty as i work ~6.5 days a week most weeks. if i had a second car, this thing would be very different (possibly even fancy). but it's not that kind of project. but it's my only and it gets modded/maintained in keeping with that. it helps me stay on track and not start down the rabbit hole called "while i'm in there..."

A bit sad about the wheels I would been all over them if I had a black or techno m3.
it's not as rowdy as your project, but i do my best.
Thanks!
The grey centers would match anything.
but they're gone now.
the new owner has a rad car that's getting close to completion. i'm sure there will be pics when they go on.
*****ALSO. MY NEW WHEELS SHIPPED TODAY AND ARE SCHEDULED FOR DELIVERY FRIDAY.*****

😂
I hope you unveil your wheels on the gram tonight!!!
posted a pic of the boxes and an horrid artsy-fartsy wheel face profile shot on the instant grams yesterday.
i'm having the front tires changed out today when i escape job2.
dude i got the wheels from forgot to ship my 20mm spacers. they're supposed to be here Tuesday. i leave for H2Oi Wednesday night or early AF Thursday morning. cutting it close again. one day, i'd like to be ready weeks in advance instead of hours in advance. the struggle.
either way, i should have the car back on the ground this afternoon/early-evening. my fit-mints won't be dialled in exactly. but i'll be able to drive the hooptie again for the first time in a week.
the new wheels are so freaking light. i'm hoping they liven up the handling and soften some of the blows of our wagon-trails that pass as roads out here.
also still haven't installed the stupid rollbar. if it doesn't go in this weekend, it may not go in til November. and i hate working on my car in the cold.
here's that sweet artsy-fartsy iphone pic of one rimz.
the wheels are dirtier than my iphone and your GF rolling together in brake dust. and the paint is in less than ideal condition. thanks PO! no matter. when they come off for winter, they'll get refinished and be sparkly and new by spring. i'll blast them with the Sonax when i get home today before i mount them up.
and here's a pic of my lovely wife that allows me to buy tons of car parts and ruin the carpet in the main floor of our home when i get excited about something and come inside, with my shoes on, to show/tell her. i have a tendency to talk about her a lot. so i figured i may as well introduce her. **the second pic is her natural habitat. on the couch, under a blanket, watching some gawd-awful crap on TV.
***IMPORTANT NOTE FOR YOU YOUNG READERS.***
that green and black book is an atlas. that's how we found our way across and around the country before smart phones and GPS. that particular example has 10s of thousands of miles, pages torn out and just sitting in their approximate place, and tons of highlighted routes from roadtrips long ago. if you want to properly plan a route, use an atlas. your phone is a nice failsafe if you get lost.
but some of my best roadtrip memories stem directly from being lost.

Lol Wagon Trails and besides the mad rush is what makes it fun. If building a Grip Missle was easy everyone would have the same car as you!

thanks! i'm entering the transition of old to old AF. i've had more than my fair share of mad rushes to get show/trip-ready. i'm very over that part of building. but i find myself trying to do too much too fast and always end up where i don't want to be.
Thanks!
