This is for real the first positive comment I've received on them.

Not even! You're forgetting when I said I loved how absurd they were!! Maybe that's not obviously so positive haha...

so i was marginally productive this weekend despite spending a lot of time saturday working on my mom's 328i vert.

i got the trunk mostly paneled off. need to make one last panel for the battery delete, and then i can seam seal it all and hope that helps with the exhaust ingress into the cabin. IDC if i smell like car. i do care if i die on the long road trip i have coming up in ~9 days.

    looks like hotdog water here.

and better here. weird how that worked out.

i also got the steering blocks from jalopi installed after months and months and months of them sitting on the shelf.
40mm of roll center and bump steer correction was what got me to sign up. the 75% quicker steering is an interesting bonus...to me.
i've driven it only far enough to verify my alignment is acceptable and then home. no real sawing on the wheel yet. that comes later this week.

    then, i did the unthinkable.
actually, i did this between the blocks and trunk. this whole post is chronologically inaccurate. but for the purposes of the story, i did this 'next'.

i chopped off the phallic symbol i displayed most proudly.

at the end of the night, i took a pic of the whole rig to better scale the, now truncated, exhaust phallus.

i honestly don't know how it's affected the sound as i haven't fired it up since abbreviating the tips. i imagine it hasn't changed too terribly. we'll see later this week. i'm trying to get the trunk 100% sorted before i drive it again as it's scheduled to rain this entire week.

i ordered a oil tstat for the cooler to help get the oil temps up. yes, i have the only LS swapped e36 in the whole world that doesn't get hot enough. at least below 70* ambient i do.
i also ordered a fireproof shift boot to seal off the tunnel from fumes and flames.
the last things i ordered are a JBL flip 3 and appropriate case that has velcro loops so i can hang it from the rollbar. no tunes for 8 hours alone in the car would be a drag and i firmly believe people who wear headphones whilst driving should be flogged and ticketed. i'm all about #safetylast, but i choose to do so of my own volition. i don't subject unwilling/unwitting citizens to my bad decisions. at least not if those decisions would render others at risk for anything more severe than damaged feelings/sensibilities. /endrant

I dig the exhaust change up.

Are you going to make a cover for the top of the battery as well?

That's all looking quite excellent! And don't be too sad about the exhaust pipes truncation, those pipes are still slightly absurd, but just the right amount of absurd, not like ludicrously absurd. Now it's "in your face!" but cool at the same time... At least that's this guy's opinion.

i've considered it. But haven't made a decision. I may yet move the battery to behind a seat and then redo the whole panel in the trunk. Idk.

it's a warning to other parts that insubordination will not be tolerated. I leave the bodies of the dead out so their friends and families know i give no quarter and take no prisoners.

    Best post on BF.c yet!
    unbroken is so f#cking good.
MOF, all of those bands were in high rotation when I was younger. Still in decent rotation, but I own a lot more music these days.
i claimed the mantle of edge when I was 15. Been into HxC since I was 12 or 13. Stuff changed my life. (I'm old AF, btw.)

    39 in a few months.
our scene in the Midwest was awesome despite having very few popular local bands. I've been to so many shows, there's no way I could even attempt to count them. My first two jobs were 100% to buy records and for show cover charges.

    so i was productive again.

finished the last panel for the trunk and then sealed up all the seams with polyurethane chimney/flashing adhesive. $6 instead of $13-30 for proper automotive seam sealer. and it's black.

i then installed the flameproof Safequip shift boot to seal the tunnel. it has a nice aluminum base that i riveted and sealed to the tunnel. so now i'm hoping to be fume free in the cabin.

here you can see the ugly wires i wrapped around the stick to keep them from dangling outside the console since no carpet. #racekor

earlier this week i modified the bracket for the oil tstat i purchased. i just used a little 1/4" mild rod and a tiny chunk of 1/8" plate i had laying around.
    got this.

    which became this.

hooray! oil still isn't getting as hot as i'd like. but it's a start. i'll save up a few bucks and buy a nice tstat from Improved Racing and redo the whole oil cooler later this year. it's gonna be hot soon, and it won't much matter if my oil circulates all the time.

I'm basically ready for Wookiees this wednesday. need to top up the trans and diff, double check my alignment, and pack my clothes/gear.
working now, and then doubles (both jobs) monday and tuesday. so Wednesday morning is gonna be here faster than i'll be ready for it.

Don't pack a metal suitcase for the trip--those exposed battery terminals are begging for a nasty mishap! Which gets me thinking: how do you insure something like this? I mean, most stanced e36 M3's are worth like $2K tops. So how do you convince them this one is actually worth 911 money (I know, I shouldn't have brought it up)?

once you swap in an LS, you don't have money for fancy metal suitcases. i'll be travelling with my gear in plastic shopping bags.
    insurance? never heard of it.

today is the last day before this year's TOD run.
we got the alignment dialed at work today. turns out my eyeball alignment was perfect on the PS and toed in 6/64 on the DS. not too bad for an old man.
after lining it up, i topped up the diff and checked the trans fluid, PS fluid, brake fluid, oil, and coolant. as of 18:30EDT, the car is ready.
i still need to pack. i'll be here at job2 til 12:30 or 01:00 tonight and i have to leave my house at 06:30 to meet the caravan heading south. i'm pretty sure once we get to the cabin, i'll be crashed out on the porch pretty much straight away.

i'll be back home sunday, and back to job2 Tuesday. so i'll see you all then. i'll do my best to get pics.
