Possible 88 m3 purchase

So I've had my eye on this car for years and the owner always told me he'd never sell it blablabla.
It sits at a shop for 3 years and slowly starts deteriorating away and life happens with the owner and now wants to sell it.



-It's got $800 in late fees
-Car wasn't running (he towed it to the body shop, reason for not running unknown)
-interior is toast
-sat in rain for 4-5 years without the car being covered and the windows missing.


How much do you think this car is worth ? It has 135k on the clock but I checked the car fax and it had 145k a year before that. So I'm guessing it got clocked 10k miles or so.

I'm guessing the electrical system for the car is toast and it needs all the wiring re done and the whole interior replaced. Is it possible to get a donor e30 to replace all the wiring and seats with ? Like an 88 325i or 89 325is.

Something like that. Say there is zero cost to purchase the rust bucket which has every issue known to man. Just an example, but if it costs you $40K to get running and it's worth $30 at that point....


I bought a roller, it had see through perforation roof to terra firma for $2K five years ago and felt I over paid. I took from it what I wanted and sold it for $2.5. The guy that bought surely will/has put in thousands of hours and who knows how much money.


Yeah, my point is the investment, post purchase, can be beyond the value.

I see that car needing $30K, or more, invested (+initial purchase), to make it a $30K car.

I think you would well by looking more.

Body/rust/glass/bumper/paint $15K - 20K
Interior $3K and up
Drivetrain, brakes, tires, etc?
Wiring? (NLA)
Many NLA bit$

10k for that is absolutely ridiculous. From you description the car sounds trashed and it will probably come with tons of hidden problems. Not worth it imo.
