Angry 1993 BMW 740iL ASC+T Traction Control Noise and Trouble Light

A couple years ago I suddenly heard a whining/grinding sound . Shortly thereafter, the traction control light lit up and simultaneously the noise stopped. Later, upon restarting the car the noise returned until the Traction Control light lit up again. The noise was coming from my ASC+T hydraulic unit.

Initially I changed out the Electronic Control box and did not solve the problem. Next, I changed out the hydraulic control unit (what a pain) and this worked momentarily.

A big break came when I had to replace a blown hydraulic seal in the driver side rear shock (self leveling) about a year ago. After I replaced the seal the noise was gone but returned about three months later.

I've since tried to reproduce the effect of fluid loss by bleeeding the rear shock, bleeding the system, replacing the power steering pump all to no avail. One thing I noticed after I replaced the power steering pump (a month ago) was fluid pressure is routed to the self leveling system aftrer the noise stops and the light goes out. This is real annoying!!!! anyone have or heard of this problem and found a solution?

I do not have ASC+T, so no real experience with that.
Are you sure the noise comes from ASC+T? Because what irritates me is the mentioning of the LAD system. Sometimes the LAD regulating valve can make noise I have read, although I never have experienced that.
Have you asked a shop for a fault code read out?

    Or try this:
    ABS/ASC blink codes

    Only possible on newer E32/clusters
    German version:

    ABS/ASC-Blink-Code

    - Bremspedal und Schalter "ASC" gleichzeitig drücken
    - Zündung "an"
    - Bremspedal und Schalter loslassen
    - ASC-LEUCHTE fängt an zu blinken
    BC = BlinkCode

    BC 1 = kein Fehler
    BC 2 = EMS Fehler
    BC 3 = Motronic Fehler (DME/ EMU)
BC 4 = Drehzahlgeber Fehler hinten links
BC 5 = Drehzahlgeber Fehler hinten rechts
BC 6 = Drehzahlgeber Fehler vorne rechts
BC 7 = Drehzahlgeber Fehler vorne links
    BC 8 = ABS-Magnetventil hinten links

Hey thanks for the response Shogun. No, it's the ABS hydraulic Control Unit making the noise for sure. This morning I narrowed things down a bit: I discovered that when the electronic ABS/ASC control unit is plugged in this process start and end. In other words, if I unplug the unit before I start the car there is no noise. And I've swapped this unit out a few different times to determine the problem.

I tried the Blink Codes you suggested but got no response from the light. I guess that means my car will not respond to the blink code startup process. I guess a shop with the code reader is the next best option.

Sounds like an electrical issues, not a mechanical. As in some relay has a broken solder point and when loaded causes erratic behavior of the pump. It would also explain the sometimes unpredictable nature of the issues. Have you refreshed the ABS computers, etc?

No, I can't say I know anything about refreshing the ABS computer, but I can say that I've changed out the ABS computers with two otherABS computers and the problem stayed the same.

Additionally, If I shut off the ASC unit using the interior ASC button the light will come on BUT the noise will not stop unit the ASC hydraulic unit has faulted on its own. Remember earlier I said the noise will stop and the hydraulic pressure will cycle to the LAD when the ASC light comes on and simultaneously the noisestops. It appears control of the ASC hydraulic unit problem is not affected by the interior control being turned onor off.

Ok, Roseville BMW got a "plunger Accumulator Fault". Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Try document link. I can not say for sure, seems like a faulty ABS unit.

Is there a update to this thread?

I seem to be having the same problem with my 1993 750il. It didn't occur until right after I opted for self leveling delete. Not sure if it's related. Also I believe I have only Asc not Asc-T.

My symptoms are the same, when I turn on the car there is a whining sound coming from the power steering and once I hit 45ish mph my Acs light comes on and it goes away instantly. I have tried to fix by changing the Power Steering Filter (very expensive filter btw) to no avail.

When I had my SLS deleted I purchased Febi equivalent pentosin 11s fliud. My current fliud is pinkish not sure if it is suppose to be green(maybe my fliud is the culprit?)

If it helps the last 7 of my Vin# DC81388

    Any help would be appreciated.

whining sound coming from the power steering could be too low fluid mixed with air bubbles.
Pentosin is green-ish as well as the Febi equivalent.
A 1993 750 should have ASC+T I assume. With your VIN you can check here in the VIN decoder all the options which were ordered, but if ASC+T was standard then, it is not listed https://www.bmwvin.com/

So I still have this noise that wont go away and it is truly annoying. I originally thought it was my power steering pump but it looks like it is the exact same deal as Jerrybare. I disconnected my ABS pump and the noise was gone.
Was there any solution to this issue? Was it finally resolved? A brand-new ABS pump is going for 2k at the stealership. I have a salvage yard near me that wants 100 bucks for a used one. Thinking to try it out. Thoughts?

There's a guy on Ebay in Ill with your part up used for $250.00. But he's taking offers. Maybe offer him a hundred bucks and see where he goes. Might get lucky.
