So how was handling with the new setup? Was snap excess oversteer what caused you to dump rear pressure, or was it lack of rear grip during steady state driftage?

@protomor I'll try. Its like a 10 page PDF and sort of sucks.

It actually handled really well. Other people also commented on how settled the car looked vs last year. Didn't notice much snap oversteer if any. The car has always had snappy transitions but I didn't notice it being amplified.

I run Kuhmo ASXs on my car as I get them for a smoking deal, and they last a good amount of time while wearing well. They're not the best for grip though and I like to have all the bite I can get. I was running them at 14psi hot which was dumb on my part, but live and learn.

Very interesting! The front sway bar should have calmed it down a lot I'd think, so maybe having the shocks set like they were didn't create too much of a problem. Or maybe I'm completely wrong, and that is really how you would want your shocks set for best calm transitions!

Yep, I am 99.9% sure this chassis is dead. Obviously this kills all plans of another car. I have a spare chassis out in storage, but it's a ton of work to cage it and transfer all the parts over. I have no idea what I am going to do at this point, but I am headed down to the shop here in a bit to better survey the damage.

I'm getting ready for a shell swap in my garage with no lift.

got some of the broken parts out of the way. The damage isn't as bad as I thought last night. I need a new intake manifold, power steering cooler, and p/s pump bracket.

Sorta hard to describe as I am not even really sure. It was a night event and the lot wasn't well lit. My headlights do next to nothing since they're purple, but they still helped some. This is a terrible phone drawing of the track layout.

Green is the start, red is the finish, and the red square at the apex of corner 1 was a stack of cinder blocks like this
    2183060-Stack-of-cinder-blocks-concrete-masonry-units-isolated-on-white-Stock-Photo.jpg

Now, it is important to note that these were in the grass, and a solid 50' back from the line I should have been on.

I had done a few runs and the temps were creeping, so I was cycling the car on and off in line in order to cool the engine. In doing this, I shut off the headlights to not strain the battery. When It was my turn, I started the car but forgot to turn my headlights on as it was pretty well lit in the area of the start line.

I took off down the track (I had been entering high in 3rd gear, so pretty quick) and did not notice that I forgot to turn them on until I got to the far end. I aimed for what I thought was the cone marking the beginning of corner one and handbraked hard and then released to turn on my lights. Well, the cone I aimed for and initiated at was actually the second cone in the corner. So i did something along the lines of this.

mowed through the entire stack of blocks. Luckily for us (and the car) the stack exploded. In the last pic above you can see chunks of them in the engine bay where they ended up.

Bet those cinder blocks will think twice before jumping out in the middle of a race track again. #LameDadJokes

Well I wouldn't have expected that much damage just reading what happened. But I guess you were hauling butt too.

I don't have a tach right now, but I was well up in the RPMs in 3rd gear. According to some online calculators I was in the ballpark of 80mph when I hit the handbrake, so I hit them pretty hard.

the good news is I sent some pics and video to my buddy who has a frame rack and he's convinced it can be pulled out. Then I just need to fab up a tube front and she will live again.

I got this picture of the aftermath sent to me yesterday

"Great" track setup. I wonder what went through organizer's head. Hmm the apex of this corner looks too safe and empty. Let's put a nice pile of cinderblocks and see if someone can crash into them... Geeez!

    Sucks about the car thogh.

Like I said, they were way off line. I mean I had to try pretty hard to get out there and hit them. I in no way blame the facility or organizer for my own dumbassery. Also, this was a parking lot event at an airport that is nice enough to let us use one of its parking lots sometimes. The blocks weren't there the day before the event, and no one at the airport knew who's they were or how they got there.

the worst part was that there was a running joke in the driver's meeting that if anyone's gonna push that far out and hit them it's going to be Justin...lol

I'm surprised that the damage wasn't worse after going (what I can only assume was) headfirst into several hundred pounds of concrete legos

But I agree with your buddy from the frame shop. Your car is saveable. You might be hard pressed to get a perfect alignment again, but if you look at this situation with a "glass half-full" type attitude, there's opportunity to be had

You'll have a fast car that you just don't care about damaging any more. One that you can just focus on having fun with. A missile car, some might say. Some people say that you need a nice car to call your beat up car a missile car, but IMO if you show up towing your car with a nice truck (which IIRC you've got a nice, clean truck) then that's good enough

    Do a tube front.
I have to do one on V2 and need some ideas on how to tie the nose panel into a tube front without looking like a huge pile of s#it.

Yeah that's the plan. As soon as he pulls it I'm going to chop it and do a tube front with some reinforcement and stuff, need to get another m3 bumper and i'm debating between ghettoing in a DMAX vent in to the stock hood or getting a duraglass version of the CF hood I had. I'm leaning more towards the stock one.

I found a few examples like this but this is a little more then I am wanting to get in to yet

I am picturing something more like this
