VA pick a part in Stafford down my quantico. I figure adding the sub box and wiring would be a huge pain. Though I don't know for sure. Someone may chime in.

Grind around speaker terminals like so

Use screwdriver to help pry off outer spacer.
Chisel to separate spacer from speaker.

Removed spacer should look like this

I use a rotary tool to make the edges flat.

I use a zip tie to hold the terminals to the magnet.

Thanks deville, that was my biggest question. Did you use the VW connector for wiring? It appears you can remove that too and just solder on the wire from the rear deck to the speaker leads.
Also, some of the connectors have two wires while others have four. In the 4 wire type, which wires should I use?

I solder the BMW wires to the VW connections and retain the plug. Not really sure the 4 wire speakers are the G speakers. Any G that I have pulled so far only have 2.

This idea took my interest but I didn't get something clearly; so do the front door VW Monsoon speakers replaces our rear deck speakers or front door speakers?
Rear deck for sure, not sure about the doors.

Anyone that has done this retrofit and has Bluetooth.
Play this track OMG.
Some seriously low bass notes that are played with amazing depth and power from the Monsoons!!!

I happened to have also done all four door speakers with Monsoons too.
I don't have to worry about them fading or drying out.
How was the door speaker install? The speakers look big. Any trouble with putting the door panel back on?

Any write up on the door speaker install? I need to do all of this as all my speakers suck and there are no good direct replacements...
With the original speakers all 8 ohm and the Monsoons at 4 ohm they will naturally play with greater power and volume, but they will also hear up the amp. Swapping four in the back may be ok, but worried that doing all 8 may shorten the amp lifespan significantly.

Just keep a spare amp on hand
Would rewiring the speakers in series be an option to bring the resistance back up to 8ohms?
The door speakers are not 8 ohm.
I tried the rear in series and it just sounded weak.
I have been abusing my DSP amp in HOT Florida weather during the summer with a total of 8 Monsoon speakers in total.
Sounds awesome, and no ill effects to report.
With a Dremel and a wide metal cutter tool you can go around the edge of the speaker and remove the plastic mount in less than 5 minutes

I went to take out the factory speakers off my old E38 and found these inside the rear deck. I don't remember getting them replaced but my father says they were indeed replaced. Any good? Worth swapping the factory rear deck speakers with these on my current E38? Says 4ohms.
How do they sound?
Why are you taking them out?

I don't remember how they sounded honestly. That's why I wanted to get someone's opinion. They were in our first E38 which my father drove most of the time and now is a part car. Also the last one or two years before the transmission gave up, the radio unit was not working regardless of how many things we swapped out to make it work. I went with the intention of removing the factory speakers out of it as my current E38's speakers are blown and found them.

Door speakers:
Before I thought about separating the spacer from the Monsoon speakers I just hacked up the BMW door box for the Monsoon speakers. (see photos)
Rear speakers:
Lips are still on the speakers (see photos)
