They are on eBay for about $40 each. I'm visiting a junk yard this week to try and find some.

I have a set... in my Jetta
I will try to grab any I can find if I end up at a JY for other reasons.

Technically if you want to do the monsoon swap, you will need two vw's. The front door and rear door speakers are different. That is why you need two cars to make one set of 4 front door monsoons.

My local yard only charges about $6 each for the speakers.

Well go get me some;-) There's no way I'm gonna spend $40 each on ebay....I'll just listen to nothing before that happens. I'm already missing 2 rear speakers which I think the other side isn't working either. That was a great surprise when doing the rear coilovers and seeing no speakers.

Now let's see if I can get this straight...we need the 4 ohm speakers from a VW 2000-2005, and they are found in the front doors?

While replacing my door lock actuator this week found my door speaker was starting to shred itself. Do the monsoons fit the door? Anyone try them?

From what I've read so far, that's correct.

I repaired/rebuilt the rear deck speakers using the repair kit supplied by the following link to Speakerworks. It worked for me, was easy to do and sounds like new oem speakers. http://www.speakerworks.com/5_1_4_in...t_p/swk525.htm

1C0035411 G front door speakers only. The rears are different. The speakers are riveted to the door and need to be drilled out.

    Thanks for the info!
Would not have brought a drill into the JY otherwise.

Monsoon speakers will fit the doors too if you free them from the plastic spacer.
The Monsoon speakers are VERY durable, won't dry rot like the OE since the surround is like rubber and the cone is like plastic.
    Passat, Jetta, Golf front doors.

Yes the OE rear subwoofers are 8 Ohm, and the Monsoons are 4, for testing purposes, my speakers and amp have been abused by these to try and break something and still have nice deep bass.

I was at the JY today and found a Passat with rear door G (4 ohm) speakers. Another one had the 2 ohm E speakers. Just check before you walk on by.

What size drill but was used to remove the mounting rivets. No wanting to take too much with me to the JY

You can't go wrong with just bringing a drill index with 12-18v drill. It will be the easiest thing you do all day

Yes but I did not have a drill and still got them out. On the Passat the are screwed in with Phillips. On the Golf Jetta they are riveted, but you discard the plastic frame that is riveted, so all I had was a flat screwdriver and a hammer so I just broke them out.

That probably explains why the Passat had 4Ohm rear speakers. Looks like someone replaced them with the wrong impedance for the application, and used screws to secure them to the door.
I have removed many of them and they were all riveted to the doors, in Passat, Jetta, and Golf.

These can be used in the doors as well?

I have a yard with a bunch of these for $10 each. Can they be used in the doors as well? What's the best method of removal?

I have never tried them in a door. Speakers are riveted into place. Typically the rivets need to be drilled out.

What size drill bit did you use to drill them out?

You will not need the plastic mount the speakers are in so it does not matter if you destroy the rivet holes. I'd take a 1/4 inch titanium bit.

Hey HDIDDY and dville, since this is getting some interest, are you guys able to post a step by step DIY so those of us who are doing the mod can get it done right. Thanks.

I think I ended up on a 7/32. Bigger or smaller would have worked fine too. Was a little tricky because the rivets like to spin, but a little sideways force took care of them.

I'll probably do another box in the next week. I'll take some pics and do a write up.
